Connectivity by Aven Ellis

synopsisOverachiever Mary-Kate Grant (who is indeed named after an Olsen Twin) has followed every rule to the letter to pursue her dream of working in TV programming.  Ripping a page from the “hard work pays off” playbook, she takes an assistant level job at a Chicago sports network to break into the industry.

MK has no time or desire for a relationship right now—she is totally focused on her career and being independent, unlike the other women in her family.

But MK’s plans are run through the shredder when she finds herself working for William Cumberland, a British media mogul who made his fortune with Connectivity, a social media site. William blows into Chicago just like the winds off Lake Michigan and purchases the group of networks MK works for—and makes her his personal assistant in the process.

Suddenly MK finds her career plans in jeopardy. William makes her question everything she has ever thought and has the uncanny ability to see right through her. And for the first time in her life, MK finds herself not only questioning what she wants for her career but for her personal life as well…

about-the-authorIMG_1443Aven Ellis has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.

But writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much fun as writing for young women trying to figure out their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in television that allowed her to write at night.  Connectivity is Aven’s debut novel; Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista (New Adult romantic comedy) will be published next year.

Aven lives in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping, cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that features Gordon Ramsay.

I think the cover for Connectivity is gorgeous. I love the purples and how the people almost look silhouetted. Very eye catching! Stay tuned for the release on October 23, 2013.

Stay With Me
Stay With Me (With Me #1) by Elyssa Patrick

synopsis
With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

New Adult/Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 17 and up.

my-review
4 out of 5 stars

This book pulled me in from the start. I enjoyed Caleb and Hailey's first meeting and was anxious for things to unfold between them. I thought they had good interactions throughout the book and I loved their chemistry. Their conversations seemed playful and fun.

Hailey grew so much and became more confident and I was rooting for her. I thought Caleb was pretty much the best guy ever - just an all around, good, solid guy. He was super sweet and I was intrigued by him but sometimes he seemed to good to be true. That wont stop him from being a book boyfriend though because I really liked him!

I enjoyed the other characters as well. Daphne is a spitfire and I thought all of Caleb’s friends were interesting and had very distinct personalities. I hope Daphne and Nick get their own story.

There was quite a bit of heat in this book but I didn’t think it was overly done or drawn out – and I mean that in a good way. I actually had a few *sigh* moments because some of it was just so sweet. I also liked the fact that it’s a real story and not one sex scene after another.

This book had a good pace, I thought it was a fast read and had a nice build. I guessed at her secret (and was right!) and thought there would have been more drama and conflict surrounding it… it wrapped up a little to cleanly for me. That being said, I did like how that part ended because I wanted her to be happy. I also LOVED the ending – the part where she reveals her feelings was PERFECT!

Well written. Great characters. This book is an excellent way to kick off a series. I loved everything just wished there would have been more drama. I will definitely continue on with the series.

Review: Mid Life Love by Whitney Gracia Williams

Mid Life Love

Mid Life Love by Whitney Gracia Williams

synopsis

If you'd asked me what love was two years ago, I probably would've said, 'It's this amazing feeling that obsesses and possesses you; it's what me and my husband currently have.' If you ask me that same question today, I'll say, 'Please get the hell out of my face.'

Claire Gracen's life is picture perfect. Her career as a marketing director is on the brink of being legendary, and her marriage to her high school sweetheart has never been stronger. No, wait. It has. It used to be amazing and fulfilling, but one day Claire realizes that she's been living a lie and her best friend and husband have committed the ultimate betrayal.

Broken and depressed, Claire is in need of something new--new city, new job, new friends.

When she happens to attract the interest of the sexiest man she's ever met, a man significantly younger than her, she immediately turns him down--only to later discover that this man is Jonathan Statham, self-made billionaire and CEO of Statham Industries. Her boss.

Jonathan Statham is unlike any man she's met before. He's used to getting whatever he wants--whenever he wants, and he isn't about to take no for an answer.
Sexy, unpredictable, and charmingly clever, Mid Life Love is a story that will captivate you, entertain you, and force you to fall deeply in love with the characters.

For Mature Audiences.

my-review

3 out of 5 stars

I absolutely enjoyed this story and it was definitely worth the read.

I really liked Jonathan, I thought he was a sweet, loving, and caring guy even though he was a little over the top. He also came from a very interesting background. Claire was a hard one for me. I liked her but also found her frustrating at times because she was in such a deep place of denial about her feelings and had secrets she was guarding. That, however, is part of the story and her coming to terms with those feelings.

I loved Claire and Jonathon together and how their unconventional relationship unfolded. There was lots of hotness and chemistry between the two and A LOT of well written sex scenes. Some of the locations might have been a bit over the top for me however, that didn’t stop me from reading though. ;-)

I thought the other characters were decent, I didn’t think they had a lot of depth though. I really enjoyed Claire’s daughters and loved Jonathon's first meeting with them. I found it highly amusing.

The first half was a little slow for me, that being said, them getting together happened at a very fast pace. The story itself unfolded slowly and we got lots of details about Claire’s broken marriage. The second half was much more entertaining for me. By 60% I was fully engaged. Towards the end I was rather anxious wondering how it was going to end. I did like how everything played out and was breathing a sigh of relief at the end.

Something I loved – chapter 25.5 and how the half chapter was integrated into the story. I really enjoyed how it tied everything together from chapter 25, explaining everything.

Overall I liked it. I thought it was a good story and I loved the fact that it was written from different POVs. I'm a fan of sexy billionaires so it worked for me.

Review: Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely

Tuesday, August 20, 2013
Playing With Her Heart
Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely

synopsis
When you’re acting the role of a lifetime, how can you know if love is real—or all just a part of the show?

Twenty-three year old rising theatre star Jill McCormick has built a life out of pretending. Pretending she’s happy, pretending her long-distance crushes add up to something real, pretending she’s not haunted by the dark secret that shattered her world six years ago. Cast in her first Broadway show, she desperately needs to keep her façade intact, but that’s before she comes face to face with her devastating new boss…

Hot-shot director Davis Milo knows the first rule of directing: never fall for your leading lady. Captivated by Jill’s raw talent, he fights his feelings, but watching Jill on-stage with another man is more than his jealous streak can take. Keeping things professional isn’t an option. He wants all of her.

Soon the ingénue and her director are staying late in the empty theatre, their private rehearsals spiraling into new, forbidden territory. Caught up between fiction and reality, Jill struggles to find the truth in all their staged kisses. But how can she be sure that what she feels is real, and not a part of the play? And when two people spend their lives pretending, what happens after the final curtain falls?

my-review
5 out of 5 stars

Fantastically written story that pulled me in. It made me feel happy, it was compelling, and intense. I loved the characters, how they developed and grew. When they were playful with one another it was wonderful and when it was serious it was so emotional. I loved it all!

I think Jill McCormick and Davis Milo are great characters. From the start I’m curious about both of them and their pasts. Davis is drawn to Jill and her to him but they both seem to be in major denial even though the pull they have on one another is obvious. As the story moves along, the two of them together is intense. I think everything unfolds perfectly and really enjoyed it. I was captured by Jill and Davis, their romance, and how they came together.

I really enjoyed the fact that this story is written from different POV’s. I always think it’s fun to see a woman through a guys point of view. I also liked the fact that Davis only has eyes for Jill. He is so darn sweet and I had a few awwww moments while reading. I loved the fact that he was possessive in a loving way and not a caveman way. I enjoyed Jill’s POV’s as well, watching her grow and come to terms with her past. She was so guarded for so long, opening up truly made her stronger in the end.
There were a lot of hot scenes, there’s a nice build. Davis sure has a way with words – he’s a talker, he’s got a nice yet dirty mouth *cough*. I like how the sex scenes are written, they didn't seem cheesy or overdone.

There was also some series subject matter in this book and I thought it was artfully woven. I thought it was gripping and relevant. The foreshadowing for it was well written also.

Perfect mix of drama and lightheartedness. I was completely absorbed!
