Review: Jed Had to Die by Tara Sivec

I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard reading a book, I’m pretty sure I had tears in my eyes at one point. This is a seriously funny read with a wonderful (yet crazy!) cast of characters you can’t help but love.

Jed Had to Die by Tara Sivec

The happiest day of Payton Lambert's life was the day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky get smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror. She wanted more for her life than a tiny town where everyone knows your business and you can’t find a decent cup of coffee for at least forty miles. Twelve years later, an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night has her packing up her life in Chicago and racing back home to the one person she ever regretted leaving behind.

Upon her return, she sees that Leo Hudson, the scrawny boy who followed Payton around like a puppy and could recite cow insemination facts in his sleep, is long gone. Leo is still hot on her heels, but now he's wearing a sheriff badge and dead set on solving a murder that may or may not involve Payton...along with half the town. In a place where the biggest crime happened the day someone kicked a few of his cows, people are pointing fingers, rumors are spreading like wildfire, and Payton swears she's only making out with the sweet-talking, studly sheriff to distract him from the secrets she's keeping.

When you've been tased, peed on by a yippy dog named Bo Jangles, and can't stop picturing what Sheriff Hudson looks like naked, it will be a tough job making everyone agree that...Jed had to die.

5 out of 5 stars

I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had reading this. Seriously entertaining and hilarious, I wrote hahahahaaaa in my notes way to many times. Right from the start I was smiling and lost in the story.

From Payton’s wit to Leo’s sweetness, from Bettie’s dry humor, and Emma Jo’s perseverance, I loved everything about this. Throw in the towns people and I pretty much laughed my way through this story. I loved sweet Leo and this awesome building relationship he and Payton had that was filled with a bit of animosity and a whole lot of chemistry. I loved Payton and Emma Jo's friendship and how Payton was there in Emma Jo’s time of need. I loved learning everyone's histories and them getting to know each other all over again. There was a seriously outrageous cast of characters, they could be a bit outlandish with all the gossip but it made them all so endearing, I couldn’t help but like them.

This was light and fun full of crazy antics and sometimes juvenile humor that was so well done I couldn't help but love it. I loved the storyline, learning about Jed (who totally did have to die!) and was sucked into the who-done-it mystery of it all. It moved at a great pace that made me excited for what was to come next. I loved how the chapters were set up as well.

I absolutely 100% love these types of stories. So freaking funny with wild humor and a crazy group of well meaning characters. I couldn't stop smiling and enjoyed every second. This is my third book by Tara Sivec and I am so glad to have found her. This is a must read that brings the laughter!
