Review: Ruthless (Lawless #1) by Lexi Blake

Loved the twists and turns and all the characters introduced. Ruthless was a great introduction to the Lawless series.

3.5 out of 5 stars

I liked this, some of it was good, some of it was great. It was the overall storyline that had me turning the page since I was enjoying the twists and turns.

There was an intense start and I was intrigued by what was being laid out. I liked Ellie and Riley a lot and enjoyed their chemistry and liked where everything was going. There was a lot of back and forth in their relationship and I liked the complications presented to them. I enjoyed learning about the Lawless family and the details that were being shared. I thought there family dynamic was great and liked how they all worked together. There was decent character development happening but not overly in depth and I enjoyed the build. That being said, as much as I liked the storyline, I never felt connected to the main characters or fully invested in them, which made it hard to throw myself into the story.

I felt this was a fast paced story and some parts felt rushed to me. It was a good but I felt I was being told not shown the majority of the time and that made it hard to fully connect. I did enjoy the drama. It was a complicated web of deceit with lots of details to keep track of. There was definitely a lot going on.

I thought this was a great start to the series. I liked the intrigue and the overall storyline that was introduced that will carry over into other stories but there were so many things that were glossed over, I just wanted more detail and grit.

Again, it was the storyline that had me turning the page because I wanted answers. Basically I liked it but had some issues. I’m still super curious about what will happen next so I plan on continuing with the series. Really good read!
