synopsis_thumb2_thumb
A Gilmore Girls meets Schitt’s Creek redemption romcom.

Hazel Hart was a successful romance novelist until a breakup drives her straight into writer’s block. Having failed (and failed some more) to deliver her new manuscript, she’s hiding from the world behind a wall of old takeout containers until her publisher lays down the law. If she misses her next deadline it’s The End.

Desperate for inspiration, Hazel impulse-buys a historic home online and flees Manhattan to tiny Story Lake, PA. Upon her dramatic arrival—involving an incident with a bald eagle—she discovers the charm of her new home may have been
slightly exaggerated.

The house is a wreck and the town is struggling after their biggest employer shut down. Also, since her raccoon-infested home came with a seat on the town council our introverted heroine is stuck with a front row seat to all the small-town shenanigans.

But Hazel isn’t worried. Not since all six-feet-three inches of grouchy contractor Campbell Bishop slapped a bandage on her forehead and unintentionally inspired the heck out of her. There’s only one thing to do: Hire Cam and his equally gorgeous brothers to renovate her new spider museum…er…house.

Okay two things. A fake date for “research purposes” will really put her work-in-progress on track. Before Hazel knows it, she’s writing a romance novel
and living one. At least until the drywall dust settles, the town she’s falling in love with faces bankruptcy, and growly Cam remembers why he can’t live happily ever after.

5 out of 5 stars

Story of My Life was THE BEST and I loved every second! It had the most fantastic characters with a phenomenal build and I loved all the details as Hazel and Cam fell in love. It was so freaking funny with exceptional wit and banter. With the addition of his siblings to her best friend, some exuberant towns folk, and adorable animals mixed in, I had the most amazing time reading this.

I loved Cam and Hazel! I instantly felt connected to Hazel and could relate to her, I loved her internal dialogue and self-deprecating humor. Cam is the epitome of grumpy and I loved it, because underneath all that grump is a good guy with a heart of gold. Their verbal sparring was excellent. Seriously, I'm a sucker for good banter and this was incredibly well done, there were times I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. I loved them getting to know each other and the pull they had to one another, and how explosive it was. I loved how they decided to fake date and not catch feelings. Of course, there are ups and downs because feelings do happen, but it was entertaining and light and had me smiling my way through as Hazel and Cam got to their amazing HEA. When things heated up, there was such a sense of want, urgency, and need that when everything finally exploded, it was super hot.

I loved all the characters involved. I loved Cam's family and the different relationships and dynamics. I loved meeting his brothers and sister and learning about her past. I loved his parents and the bonds they all had. I adored Hazel's relationship with her best friend Zoey. These two were ride-or-die and so dang fun together. Then there are the townsfolk and the hilarity that ensued right from the start with them, and how they ended up embracing Hazel. They were sweet and crazy in this comical and endearing way and I ate it up.

I thought the storytelling was outstanding. I loved the building details and thought the timing was spot on. This was a long book, but it never felt long to me, it felt exciting and fun, and I had a hard time putting it down to be a responsible adult because I was so caught up in everything. I switched back and forth between the audiobook and eBook. I thought the narrators were great, they were so inviting and engaging, making me feel even more pulled in. I am so excited where it all will go and thought this was a fantastic series starter. Lucy Score does it again with Story of My Life!
