Review: Wallbanger (Cocktail #1) by Alice Clayton

Wallbanger
Wallbanger (Cocktail #1) by Alice Clayton

synopsis
Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.

Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.

Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…

In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.

my-review
5 out of 5 stars

I loved this book. Seriously loved it! I downloaded the sample to check it out and it was so entertaining and I was laughing* so much that I 1-clicked and continued on.

It was witty, well written, and I liked all the characters. Caroline seems fun, spunky, confident, and strong and I love that her goal isn’t to find a man. Her first two meetings with Simon were fantastic. The start of their relationship was very non-traditional as was Simons relationships with other women so it is nice to watch him grown and change – I was totally drawn to him. He was just so endearing! This is such an awesome love story! A bit of heat and a lot of longing.

I am so captured by everything. The style of writing is great. I love when there are text messages between the characters and I really enjoyed the POV’s during the car ride. There is lots is humorous banter, it's such a enjoyable book with a real growing relationship. I also enjoyed all the other characters (their friends) and how everyone interacted. I found myself smiling and turning pages as fast as I could. There were so many times I laughed* out loud, it just made me happy to read.

The ending. Oh my. What a way to wreck a kitchen! ;-) All that build up was totally worth it. I loved it! I loved that Caroline stayed true to herself but opened herself up for more and I love how Simon changed and also opened himself up for more. I love how they grew together, how it was a true yet slightly unconventional love story. Excellent writing!

*When I say I was laughing, I mean, I was laughing out loud and people in my family where looking at me like I was crazy. I cannot say enough good things about this book!
