Book Review: Say You're Sorry (Sacramento #1) by Karen Rose

This was my first time reading Karen Rose and I will definitely be reading more. I thought there was a perfect balance between the romance and suspense and I was turning the page like a madwoman, excited to find out what would happen next.

Introducing the first novel in the pulse-pounding Sacramento series from New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose.

There is a serial killer on the loose, preying on vulnerable women. The only identifiable mark the killer leaves are letters—sometimes one, sometimes two—all carved into the torsos of his victims. Together they spell “Sydney.”

When he grabs Daisy Dawson, he believes he has found his next victim. But despite her small stature, she fights back with an expertise that quickly frees her. Before fleeing the scene, Daisy also manages to grab what proves to be crucial evidence: a necklace from around the killer’s neck.

The necklace is more than a trivial item—it is a link to a cold case that Special Agent Gideon Reynolds has been tracking for seventeen years. With Daisy’s help, Gideon finally has the opportunity to get closer to the truth than ever before.

But they might not get the chance, as the serial killer has a new target: Gideon and Daisy.

4 out of 5 stars

Say You’re Sorry was exciting and intense with the perfect amount of romance, passion, and drama mixed in. It was thrilling to read!

Gideon and Daisy were great characters and I loved learning about them and watching them come together and connect. I loved their chemistry and how they were there for one another. It was passionate and emotional and I liked their building connection. The suspense element was pretty fantastic and I love how Daisy and Gideon’s relationship played into that. There's also a mystery happening that spans over the course of the series which added an extra layer of excitement. Some of the details about Gideon and his past aren't for the faint of hearts, it was gripping and I felt so much for him.

There are a few POVs in play, one being the bad guy, and even though I didn't like this guy, I found him oddly fascinating. Learning his history and his why’s were heartbreaking. I really liked getting his point of view, getting clues about him, and the details of his bad deeds. There's a wonderful cast of characters involved and liked them all. I enjoyed the different bonds and connections taking place and the timing of when new characters were introduced. I was rooting for one of the bad guy’s victims and was on the edge of my seat waiting for that to play out. The writing was well done and there was an amazing build pulling me in. There’s a nice amount of drama with lots of emotion and tension woven in as well.

I like the overall storyline that's been set up for the series and the meeting of the couple for the next book. I'm excited about where it will all go. This book ends with a HEA with the main suspense element getting a conclusion but the overall mystery continues throughout the series. This was an excellent series starter. It was an awesome read with great details and captivating characters that had me hooked the entire time.
