Review: Beard in Mind (Winston Brothers #4) by Penny Reid

From the second I started Beard in Mind, I was lost to Beau and Shelly’s story, absorbing it all. An incredible read!

Beard in Mind (Winston Brothers #4) by Penny Reid

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.

Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.

She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words. Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

5 out of 5 stars

This was an exceptional story filled with wonderful characters. An amazing addition to the series. I loved the humor, drama, and emotion and couldn't put it down.

I absolutely adored both Beau and Shelly. I loved the different POVs and really getting inside their heads, especially Shelly's. I loved learning about her and truly understanding what she was going through. Watching her work through her struggles made me root for her and love her. Beau was amazing. I loved his sweetness and how deeply he loved everyone and cared for friends and family. He was just a wonderful soul. He was going through his own things, so many changes, and I loved really getting to know him. I loved watching Beau and Shelly learn about each other, share, be open and honest as they come together.

This book was filled with truly great, humorous moments that had me laughing. It was also super emotional really making me feel and think, there are bits of drama throughout that had me on my toes. There are a lot of heartbreaking moments when learning about Shelly. It's a hard subject matter but well executed. There are so many things happening, so many layers and so much depth. I loved all the details that unfolded, things that came to light, and new information learned. There was a really wonderful build to it all. I couldn't stop reading, this was a total page-turner.

I really enjoyed the fact that this story overlaps with the previous book, Beard Science. I loved Beau’s perspective about Cletus and what was going on with him and Jen. It was awesome. There's a great cast of characters. I love seeing all the interactions and relationships. It's all so well thought out.

This was just an incredible read full of heart, humor, and emotion. I loved every second! That saying "all the feels"'pretty much covers where I was at when finishing the story. So good!!!
