Book Review: Forged in the Fire by A.L. Jackson

After meeting Silas in the Moonlit Ridge series, I was thrilled to know he'd be getting his own book in a spinoff. I loved the depth and intensity in Forged in the Fire, as all the details were learned. I was completely captivated by the characters. This was a stellar introduction to the Crimson Crows series, and I cannot wait for more!

It was a terrible idea to agree to protect my enemy’s sister…

The second she stepped out of her brother’s car, I knew she was a wildfire.
Spitting mad and so stunning she stole my breath.
She thinks her brother made a deal with the devil, and by working for me, she’s paying off his debt.

She doesn’t know the real reason she’s here.
Doesn’t know the danger that surrounds her.
Soon, she realizes there is something sinister lurking in the shadows.

She hates me for keeping her in the dark.
I want to hate her back, but with every sassy thing that fires from her mouth, she gets deeper under my skin.
With each heated glance, I feel myself losing control.
And when I crawl into bed with her, I combust.

I know better than thinking I can keep her. My life is nothing but secrets and peril.
But as outside threats begin to infiltrate, I’ll do anything to keep the oath I made to keep her safe.
Even expose her to the monster that I am…

5 out of 5 stars

Forged in the Fire was an intense and passionate story that had me on the edge of my seat as every detail was learned and past and present collided. I loved Silas and Brinley and the tension between them from the start, their simmering chemistry, and the pull between them as they came together. I loved the world the author created, meeting new characters, and how it ties into other series. I was excited while reading and could not wait for them to get their HEA. Amazing series starter that’s not to be missed.

Silas and Brinley had fantastic verbal sparring as they battled their positions and underlying attraction. I loved learning about them and their history. Brinley was thrown into this situation because of her brother, and I felt for her and the upheaval she was going through. I hurt for her about her painful past and loved the care that Silas took with her when the time came. Silas is incredibly protective, and I loved learning the why behind it and what his internal battle was. I liked how he fought his feelings for Brinley and how his walls eventually started to come down. There were flashbacks to the past, and I loved the build as everything collided with the present. It was full of drama and longing, healing and love… and a lot of heat. There was a nice slow burn happening, but when it exploded, it was fire!

I loved meeting Silas’s family and how they accepted Brinley and brought her into the fold. I loved sweet Kai and how he played into everything. I adored his sister Elena, she was a sweet, bright light, and I am thrilled she’s getting a story next. I loved meeting all the Crimson Crows and learning what the club’s mission was. I’m excited for stories about Trevan, Phoenix, and Brody. They each have interesting personalities, and I am thrilled about where it all will go.

There was an incredible build throughout. I loved the details unfolding and how they captivated me. I loved the writing and descriptions and thought they painted a beautiful picture. This story was a great escape and had me hooked from beginning to end!
