Review: Once Burned (Night Prince #1) by Jeaniene Frost

Once Burned was on my TBR for way longer than I care to admit and I’m not sure what took me so long to pick it up, but I am so glad I did! I loved diving into this new, elaborate world and meeting all these intriguing characters. I’m excited for more!

She’s a mortal with dark powers…

After a tragic accident scarred  her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a  person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of  solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out  with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…

He’s the Prince of Night…

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest  vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most  feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against  him – a beautiful mortal with powers to  match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them,  threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop  an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Holy awesome Batman. Fantastic read! This was an exciting and detailed world with extremely intriguing characters. I was hooked from the start and on the edge of my seat!

I loved and was intrigued by Vlad and Leila. I really liked Leila and her stubbornness. She was rather badass and I liked her becoming bolder. Leila was challenging and I loved how she stood up to Vlad. Everything about Vlad was awesome. I loved learning about his long history and seeing the things that formed who he is now. He’s dangerous and dark but has this presence about him that’s so darn sexy.

There was a wonderful build to the story and great character development. It had a great flow and was really well thought out. There was a great pace and it was exciting to read. This is an elaborate world with really great details and I loved learning the ins and outs of everything. I loved all the different characters, I loved the drama and all the action, and the building passion between Vlad and Leila. There was drama and intensity but there were a lot of super entertaining moments too and I thought it was all well balanced.

I am so excited to have started this series. This is my first time reading this author and I pretty much dove in, so glad I did. It was just full of all these great things and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next one. I love a good vampire story and this was great!

The Night Prince Series by Jeaniene Frost

What’s a book that’s been on your TBR for a really long time? Let me know!

things-to-note_thumb2_thumb

The Night Prince series is a spin-off of the Night Huntress series. If I would have been paying attention and realized that, I probably would have started that series first. That’s okay, those books aren’t going anywhere so they shall remain on my TBR and I’ll get to them someday.

Fun (or ridiculous) Fact: For some reason – and I have no idea why – every time I went to type “Once Burned,” I typed “Once Bitten” instead. Every. Time. So, if you run across something that says Bitten instead of Burned, just roll with it. ;-)
