Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

The gossip mill in the seaside community of Monterey is churning about Chloe Patterson, the newcomer who is starting a sanctuary for rescued pit bulls. It’s rumored that she’s a former beauty queen (true) who ditched her fiancé the morning of their wedding (also true). And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true.

When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State.

Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however—now there’s a thought. But are a few Mai Tais, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s hope Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing.

Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be . . . Mai Tai’d Up.

5 out of 5 stars

Mai Tai’d Up was such an awesome story and I flew through it! This story was sweet, emotional, sexy, and funny all rolled into one.

I loved so many things about this. A solid foundation was laid from the very beginning about who Chloe was and how she came to be in her current situation, to how she met the adorable and sexy Lucas. Lucas is an amazingly sweet, relatable guy and I loved him. There were so many great details given in their relationship and an excellent build to it all. I really enjoyed the playfulness of their friendship and how it grew and evolved. Loved Chloe and Lucas together! They had great chemistry, a nice amount of sexual tension and there was some mild drama mixed in. It made it a page turner for me because I wanted them to come together so badly.

There are some character connections from other Cocktail series books and it was so fun to see. I also liked the relationship that Chloe had with her parents even though the relationship with her mother was a rocky one. I really enjoyed the subtly of her mother coming around.

About the pit bulls... I loved everything about having the dogs be a part of the story and the positive message that it gave. It gave me this extra happy feeling, even though some of the reality was hard. It was a wonderful thing to have as part is the story.

I thought this had a great pace, with an excellent build, and was overall a fast read. I was invested the whole time, anticipating what was going to happen next. This was just a sweet and playful story that was totally enjoyable to read. All of the bits of drama, sincere moments, and grand gestures were just perfect. This was heartfelt and entertaining and I had several laugh out moments. Alice Clayton weaves a great romantic tale full of laughter, longing and sexiness. A 5 star read for me!
