MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

4.5 out of 5 stars

This was so freaking good! Excellent introduction to the series that has my mind racing with a million questions. I cannot wait to read the next books. I’m hooked!

This was seriously intriguing right from the start. I think everything was laid out extremely well. I really like Mac. She went through a lot in a short amount of time and sometimes she was completely overwhelmed. I love how she handles it all. I liked her internal dialogue, some of it was really humorous. I am completely fascinated by Jericho Barron's and can't wait for more details on him – I loved his bad ass attitude! He was just so in command and powerful. I was guessing who or what he was the entire story. The two of them have an interesting relationship because Mac wants answers and Jericho keeps secrets so there is a lot of tension. There’s an undercurrent of desire between the two of them as well and I’m anxious to see how all that develops.

I loved the elaborate world that is being developed, all the paranormal findings about the fae and the cast of characters that have been introduced so far. There’s a nice build with lots of detail. There’s also a lot of new lingo to remember, I’m really thankful a glossary was included or I’d be lost.

The ending was great with a bit of drama. I liked the who-done-it element about who killed her sister, it’s dark and mysterious. While a lot was learned there is still a ton to be discovered and I will definitely continue. I’m excited about where it could all go! I liked it so much that I ordered all the books that were available because I want to read the entire series.

A great foundation was made in Darkfever, I’m really intrigued and so happy that I have a new series to read! Bring on Bloodfever!
