An immortal assassin is caught between desire and duty...

A foundling raised in a world of humans

Growing up, orphaned Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was “bad,” an outcast with strange powers. Her baby brother Thaddeus was as perfect as she was flawed; protecting him became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from angry girl... to would-be superhero... to enchanting, ruthless villain.

A lethally sensual enforcer on a mission

A threat to the Møriør has brought archer Rune the Baneblood to the mortal realm to slay the oldest living Valkyrie. Whether by bow or in bed, he never fails to eliminate his target. Yet before he can strike, he encounters a vampiric creature whose beauty conceals a black heart. With one bite, she pierces him with aching pleasure, taking his forbidden blood - and jeopardizing the secrets of his brethren.

A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin...

Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? Rune knows he must not trust Josephine, yet he’s unable to turn her away. Despite his millennia of sexual conquests, he can’t ignore the unfamiliar longing she arouses deep within him. When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.

So awesome! Fantastic story with great characters. I really enjoyed emerging myself in this elaborate, paranormal world. It’s my first from the series and I was captivated by it.

Jo was rather spectacular. She was this kick ass heroine who was snarky and funny and extremely challenging and stubborn. She was also a bit naive and all these elements woven together made her really likable, interesting, and entertaining . I thought Rune was equally fascinating. I found him intriguing and frustrating all at once. He had quite the history! I really enjoyed Rune’s personal story and how much he grew throughout. Loved the pull they had for one another. Jo pushing Rune’s buttons was just so fun. Loved watching their attraction grown and barriers break down. These two were super hot! I mean: HOT HOT HOT! Love the build to them coming connecting even though there were a few parts that were just a bit drawn out for me. Totally worth the wait though because they were combustible together. There were some seriously off the charts erotic and passionate moments happening!

There were lots of characters in play and a lot to remember. This was my first book in the Immortals After Dark series but I never felt lost. It was very detailed and full of depth. A very rich story, great development. Nice drama and tension. Loved the whacked out character that was Nix (a great bad guy even though she was woman). I had questions that got answered and I had a few more once finished (maybe pertaining to the overall story line?). I want to know all the things and will definitely read more stories from this series. There were so many fascinating characters involved, I want to know more about them all.

I was really excited while reading this and found everything fascinating. There were all these little emerging details that had me wanting more. A really fantastic read!
