I love the Cold Fury world that Sawyer Bennett has created. Hawke and Vale had an intense story that I thoroughly enjoyed losing myself in. Can’t wait for the next book!
Hawke (Cold Fury #5) by Sawyer Bennett
The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team proves that love is a power play. As Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling series continues, the league’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.
4 out of 5 stars
Vale and Hawke totally stressed me out but in a good way and I was thrilled when they finally got their HEA. It was a crazy, fantastic ride!
I was completely lost to this story. Vale and Hawke have a complicated past and I loved learning every single detail about what their relationship was like, why they parted, and watching this new relationship unfold as they come back together. It felt so tense and serious and I found my heart in my throat several times as I took it all in. They experience so many ups and downs but it was so worth the battle.
I kind of had a love-hate thing with Hawke happening, I liked him but he was so hurt and angry from past events, that pain could really show through. But when he was sweet, it was awesome. He was commanding and sexy and I loved his vulnerable moments. Vale was something else, I loved how caring she was and how she was there for her dad, basically how she changed her life. I just couldn't wait to know why she broke it off with Hawke. That being said, she held on to her own anger from the past pretty well too and it made for a lot of drama filled moments. I was basically yelling at my Kindle wanting these two to open up and talk. Seriously, these two stressed me the heck out! They're relationship is up and down, intense, emotional, with drama, and that back and forth made me feel so tense. I couldn’t wait for them to have their happily ever after.
I loved the updates on the other couples from previous stories. I really like the Cold Fury organization and how they are one great big family. It's all these great details that make the story feel full. The writing was really good and I thought it had a decent pace. That back and forth between Hawke and Vale had the tension off the charts. I have to say though, as much as I enjoyed that building tension, it could get to be a bit much. Both of their personalities were so strong and argumentative that it could feel a bit over the top.
In the end though, I thought this was awesome. When I say addicting I mean it. I get so lost to the stories in this series and the Cold Fury world. I love the fantastic world the author has created.
