I’m so excited to share my review for Hooking Up. I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this one. It was so well written and incredibly entertaining. I couldn’t get enough. Want to read the first chapter? Find it HERE.
Hooking Up by Helena Hunting
Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception–but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming her revenge screw.
Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.
They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.
Filled with hilariously scandalous situations and enough sexual chemistry to power an airplane from New York City to the South Pacific, Hooking Up is the next standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Helena Hunting, the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series and Shacking Up.
5 out of 5 stars
This was so incredibly entertaining! I adored Amie's relationship with the hero. It was so sweet and flirty and way hot! Things were complicated for these two, it was passionate, crazy fun with a few of ups and downs but I hung on every word and loved it all!
I loved watching Amie's battle, it was like watching her emerge from her shell and really be her feisty, playful self. I loved her perseverance and strength. It was such a hard situation she was in and I could feel her pain. The hero was so incredibly sweet, kind, caring, and so off the charts sexy. On more than one occasion the man made me melt! They had off the charts chemistry and a serious pull to one another even though there’s a bit of a conflict for them to be together. I loved watching them work it out. Those growing feelings they were fighting, dealing with complications and the building passion and love.
Hooking Up was so witty and engaging and I felt so pulled in. I loved the humor, it had me grinning and laughing out loud. I loved the playfulness and flirting as well. There's a good bit of tension and angst mixed in as well with everything Amie has to deal with. I have to say, I love a well written bad guy, but her estranged husband totally stressed me out. My anxiety level with this guy was off the charts.
I thought the pace was excellent. I was filled with so much anticipation to find out the back stories and I just hung on every word waiting to find out. Excellent details and descriptions. Amazing build. Loved seeing more of Bane and Ruby from Shacking Up and how they played into the story, it was a great addition.
I had so much fun reading this, it was entertaining craziness. There was a perfect balance of everything I love: the funny, the flirt, the heat, the drama, the building love, a few heart wrenching moments and fantastic characters! This story checked all my boxes. I laughed, yelled at my kindle, and totally rooted for these two. I loved it all!

Note: Technically this isn’t listed as a series and each book can be read as a standalone. However, both Shacking Up and Hooking Up have interconnecting characters so they are related.
I love a good RomCom. Sometimes I crave that perfect balance of sweet, sexy, and funny. Let me know some of your favorites!
