4.5 out of 5 stars

First of all, how yummy looking is the cover for Hello, Cookie Dough? I personally am not much of a sweets person but I have two people in my house that are and they love cookie dough so I wanted to give it a shot. They were thrilled to be able to fill it up with Post-It notes of everything they wanted me to make. Granted I don’t eat a lot of sweets but I love to bake and make treats so I was excited to give the recipes a try.

On the recipe front, there are a ton of choices and they were all easy to follow. There are straight forward directions and do’s and don’ts to help you along. Making the flour to be edible was super easy too. I did not attempt to pasteurize eggs, I just bought the pasteurized egg whites. Even though it was fairly straight forward, dealing with the eggs was a bit too daunting for this wanna-be-baker. The first recipe I tested out was the Signature Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and it was a hit. I also made Always Room for Mint Chip, this one turned out pretty well but me trying to create grated chocolate was a bit of a fiasco so it looks nothing like the photo, but it still tasted great. After testing just the edible dough, I did bake them. They were awesome, though they seemed slightly cakier to me but no one complained. I think it’s the best of both worlds!

There are a few recipes that include other ingredients, like pre-made cookies and cake mix. While I have no problems with adding pre-made cookies, I wish there would have been a simple alternate cake mix recipe included. That would have been very helpful and convenient.

Beyond the recipes, I thought Kristen Tomlan was super fun. She was very personable and I enjoyed her stories, it made it very inviting. The photos are dynamic and let’s face it, freaking delicious looking! I also liked the cookie and chapter names, it added a bit of whimsy. I liked it for sure and I plan on making more treats from the book. :-)
