Milla Vane returns to a world of kings, magic, and passion in her exhilarating A Gathering of Dragons series, as a great alliance forms to stand against an evil warlord intent on their destruction.

Danger lurks in the western realms. The Destroyer’s imminent return has sent the realms into turmoil as desperate citizens seek refuge—but there’s no safety to be found when demons and wraiths crawl out from the shadows. Even Koth, a northern island kingdom left untouched by the Destroyer a generation past, is besieged by terrors spawned from corrupt magics.

When Lizzan leads the Kothan army against these terrors, only to see her soldiers massacred and to emerge as the only survivor, she is called a coward and a deserter. Shunned from her home, Lizzan now wanders in solitude as a mercenary for hire, until she encounters a group of warriors seeking new alliances with the northern kingdoms—a group that includes Aerax, the bastard prince of Koth, and the man who sent her into exile.

Though they were childhood friends, Aerax cannot allow himself to be close to the only woman who might thwart his treacherous plan to save their island realm. But when a goddess's demand binds them together, Lizzan and Aerax must find a way to overcome their painful pasts. Or there will be no future for the western realms...

5 out of 5 stars

I am loving this series! I felt so pulled in and a part of this fantastical world, it was breathtaking. I loved Lizzan and Aerax and their beautiful love story that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was an absolutely brilliant fantasy romance!

The journey that Lizzan and Aerax were on was incredible. Lizzan is in such a broken place and had some serious issues to work through and I hurt for her. I loved her big heart and how she was always helping those in need. Aerax was awesome! I felt for him and the situation he was in, and I couldn't wait for all his secrets to be learned. I loved learning about their history together and could feel the longing and love between them. It was wonderful and sweet and painful and heartbreaking. I loved their ups and downs, the drama, their banter, and the passion between them. There was just so much feeling between these two and I couldn’t wait for them to be together.

This was so much more than a romance. It's an intricate, vivid, and detailed world with amazing characters, realms, and creatures. I loved the elaborate descriptions, each realm, and the characteristics were so unique. I loved everyone working together to form an alliance to defeat the Destroyer and all the obstacles that were in their way. There was so much depth and rich history of the world before and after the Destroyer came and I loved all those aspects. It's intense and action-packed and full of so much heart and there was an extraordinary build to it all. I love how secondary characters from the first book were seamlessly woven into this story and I was thrilled to get more details on them. I really loved several new characters that were introduced, including the couple for the next book. I am already intrigued about the setup and am excited for what’s to come. Mixed in with the intensity were these incredibly fun moments that had me smiling. They came at just the right time bringing the perfect amount of levity.

This story, just like the first book (A Heart of Blood and Ashes), is very world-building and I love how intricate it all is. I thought A Touch of Stone and Snow was an absolutely phenomenal read. I love the world Milla Vane has created with the Gathering of Dragons series and can't wait for more.
