Book Review: Bluebird Gold by Devney Perry

Bluebird Gold was an exciting and entertaining way to kick off a new series! It was filled with so many tropes that I love: romantic suspense set in a small town with a single dad, and there was forced proximity happening. Add in that this was set in the 80's, and I was all about it. Grab your copy today!

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Devney Perry comes a gripping romance set in 1983 where a woman’s search for the truth about her father’s death entangles her with the small-town sheriff and a legend of lost Montana gold.

Living in Dalton, Montana, was not what I had planned for this winter. But after my father’s sudden death, I uprooted my life to move into his tiny lakeside cabin and settle his estate. My friends tell me to sell his place and move on. But this winter is my chance to say goodbye. To remember a man who’d loved tales of Montana lore.

Taking a temporary teaching job seemed like the perfect way to keep myself busy on lonely days. Cleaning out the cabin should have been simple. Except the more I learn about my father’s life, the more questions I have about his death.

The last thing I need is a crush on Sheriff Cosi Raynes. Not only is his son my student, but his life is rooted in Montana, while mine is headed…anywhere else.

Yet as I uncover a trail of strange clues Dad left behind about a lost legend of Montana gold, staying away from Cosi is not an option. Neither is denying the attraction between us. And my winter of healing becomes a race for answers.

I came to Montana to bury the past. Now I’m falling for the man who might just be my future. And either I’ll solve this mystery, or the person in Dalton determined to hide the truth will make sure I die trying.

5 out of 5 stars

Bluebird Gold was so freaking good! I loved it! It was exciting and entertaining, filled with passion and emotion, plus the perfect amount of intrigue as the mystery played out. I felt consumed by Cosi and Ilsa's relationship. I loved their chemistry and watching them fall in love. This was a fantastic read and a heck of a start to a new series.

I loved everything about Cosi and Ilsa. I felt for Ilsa as she learned things about her estranged father and felt the eeriness when odd things started to happen. I loved her and Cosi’s first meeting and the instant attraction they had. They had magnetic chemistry with a great build, and when it exploded, it was electric. I loved how Cosi’s protectiveness amped up when drama started happening around Ilsa.

The story had an intriguing and somber start, and I was all in. Every hint about the mystery had me on the edge of my seat, it was thrilling. I loved the cryptic hints and clues and how Ilsa, Cosi, and his son Spencer ended up working together to figure things out. I felt for Ilsa and everything she had to deal with at the school she worked at and the rumor mill there, it was a sign of the times for sure. Speaking of times, I love that this was set in 1983. I loved every single reference to the time period and felt so much nostalgia while reading, it was awesome.

From the small town to the characters introduced to the suspense element, I thought this was wonderful storytelling. I could feel the emotion, tension, and angst as everything played out. I loved the picturesque descriptions, making me want to visit Montana. I love how Devney Perry tells a story, and this was an excellent one. The first book in the Lost Legends series is not to be missed!
