A Washington, DC, defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing—with his southern drawl, disarming smile, and captivating green eyes, he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him, and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.

Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart, the mother of his beloved ten-year-old daughter. Jenny is getting married—to someone who isn’t him.

That’s definitely not part of the plan.

***

Sofia Santos is a city-raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her “friend with mind-blowing benefits,” begs her for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi, to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves. Her head tells her she’s crazy…and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one-stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage, and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best-laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

5 out of 5 stars

This was such a wonderful story! It was sweet and entertaining and really emotional as well. Plus there is a whole lot of sexy! It was just a great blend of everything.

I thought Stanton Shaw was a fantastic character and Sophia Santos was too. I loved Stanton! LOVED! There were times I wanted to yell at him because he was so locked into a certain idea and those moments when he starts to get a clue, I was just beside myself with happiness. I thought Sophia was so strong. I loved her determination and perspective. I thought it was was incredible how she could to take so many things in stride. The two of them together were great. There's hotness and playfulness and I love the ease they have with one another. Really fantastic chemistry!

This story has both of their POV's and I loved being able to see certain situations through the other persons eyes. I loved watching the different layers of their relationship build and grow, I thought it had so much depth. It was really beautiful written and I loved it! I felt touched by it. That may seem odd to say but it's just such a real, normal situation they were in and I thought Emma Chase did a wonderful job with it. There were so many great, lighter moments woven in and even with those, I found this to be a really emotional story with some angsty mixed in. It was just a full story and everything was well developed.

I liked all the characters in this. They all had such strong, fun personalities. Meeting both Jake Becker and Brent Mason makes me super excited for the next two books. I thought Jenny was so sweet and Presley made my heart melt. And Nana, oh goodness, those were fun scenes to read, they made me laugh and cry. It all made me happy!

I truly loved this from beginning to end. Solid introduction that pulls you in, wonderful characters that keep you wanting more so you can't put the book down, and a great ending with an awesome epilogue. I thought how the details developed were excellent, I kept turning the page, totally engrossed. Great pace. Perfect amount of sexy and fun mixed with emotion and drama. Just a fantastic read!
