Review: Cage (Corps Security #2) by Harper Sloan

I’m a big fan of alpha males and Harper Sloan definitely knows how to write an awesome one. I absolutely enjoyed Cage and can’t wait to read the next book, Beck.

Cage (Corps Security #2) by Harper Sloan

synopsis_thumb2

Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his mother and sister’s shield against the world… until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance around… until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control?

Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing she will ever do is ask for someone else’s help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength?

The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows that she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on another member of the Corps family.

All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing threatens anyone Greg loves again.

CAGE is a complete story with a HEA.

4 out of 5 stars

This was such an addicting read! I had so much fun losing myself in Greg and Melissa coming together. These two were awesome. Loved the heat and the drama. I ate it up!

Greg Cage was fantastic, he's totally alpha and I loved his pursuit of Melissa. How they met was great, her playfulness in the beginning was so entertaining and I love the sparks that flew. I love how she didn't just give in to him, making him really work for it. That challenge made them finally connecting even better. And the sparks between them? They flew because this sucker is high octane heat! Hot doesn't cover it. It's pretty fast paced but I liked that it lapsed over time and how it was laid out.

I liked Greg and Melissa’s past connection and now that ties into the story. There is a nice amount of drama for both of them. It's kind of over the top and Greg's got some of his own drama thrown into the mix but it had me turning the page, completely hooked. There is drama for Melissa too and I love how she stands up for herself and doesn't take guff from anyone. It was great watching them come together, watching that heat ignite, and watching them open up. And Greg, he is the biggest, baddest sweetheart, he had so many scenes that made me melt. I loved him.

I like the other characters as well and that crazy male bonding all the Corps Security guys have. Their language can be coarse and a bit over the top but I just rolled with it because somehow it fit their super alpha personalities. I’m excited about some of the side stories that are happening with other characters and can’t wait for those couples to connect.

The writing was good. Not overly detailed or deep but definitely enjoyable with a great pace, and a good build. For me, it was the story that sold me because I was just excited while reading, really wrapped up in this crazy hot story and the characters. If a story can make me ignore everything around me and it becomes all consuming, it's a winner for me.
