Book Review: The Perfect Play (Play by Play #1) by Jaci Burton

This was my first Jaci Burton book and it won’t be my last. I picked it up at my local store a while back when she came for a signing. I am so glad I attended... and that I have it signed! It was an awesome read!

Football pro Mick Riley is an all-star, both on the field and in the bedroom. But a sexy, determinedly single mom just might be the one to throw him off his game...

For years Mick has been taking full advantage of the life available to a pro athlete: fame, fortune, and a different girl in every city. But when he meets and beds confident, beautiful event planner Tara Lincoln, he wants much more than the typical one-night stand. Too bad Tara's not interested in getting to know football's most notorious playboy any better.

As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing Tara needs is the jet-set lifestyle of Mick Riley; even though their steamy and passionate one-night stand was unforgettable. Tara's life is complicated enough without being thrust into the spotlight as Mick's latest girl du jour. Tara played the game of love once and lost big, and she doesn't intend to put herself out there again, especially with a heartbreaker like Mick.

But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind.

I loved this. Such a fantastic story! It was fun and entertaining and super sexy!

Mick and Tara were great characters. I really loved Tara and her background story. How strong she was, how giving, and how protective she was. Mick was great too, so sweet and caring. They had great interactions, it could be really playful and I was constantly grinning from ear to ear. I loved them together, how their story built, how all their secrets were learned and everything evolved. It was awesome. The two of them together had great chemistry as well. They were just a really good fit and I enjoyed it all immensely.

There were ups and downs and a bit of drama. It all had a good balance. Loved the writing and development. Great characters as well. Mick’s family was great, loved his brother Gavin. I really loved the relationship that was developing between Mick and Nathan. Nathan had a great moment at the end too that got me all teary-eyed.

Solid from beginning to end. Couldn't put it down. It had everything I love in an awesome story. Really great fun to read! It wasn't super heavy but had a nice amount of emotional moments in it. Super hot. Excellent characters. This so my first Jaci Burton book - I can't wait to read more!
