Getting Schooled (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase
Release Date: June 26, 2018
Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.
The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy—he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.
Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.
Back to school...
Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances—that she'd prefer to never speak of again—have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.
Just like old times...
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance—and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled—hard—by love.
This! This right here is my kind of read. A story that really makes me feel. Getting Schooled made me laugh (hysterically so!), it made me cry, it filled me up, and left me feeling unbelievably happy. This was perfect to me! 6 stars!
Callie and Garrett have this immensely beautiful and special relationship. I loved learning about them, their connection, and their struggles. The development as they reconnect and get to know each other all over again was wonderful. Callie’s so strong and determined, thoughtful and caring, and has this wonderful personality that's infectious. Garrett is full of confidence and swagger and just has this way about him I was completely drawn to. Together they have this amazing dynamic that's flirty and fun and I couldn’t get enough.
There were so many amazing scenes between Callie and Garrett that had me smiling and laughing. (The crazy kind of laughing when you get tears in your eyes and your family comes to check on you to make sure you're okay.) There were just so many priceless moments and references to things from the past that I grew up with and could totally relate too. Yes there are a few ups and downs, some heart wrenching moments, and bit of drama to round it all out but mostly this is entertaining awesomeness that makes your heart happy. There was an incredible cast of characters involved as well. Parents, friends, students, and one very sweet fury friend. I adored all those interactions and connections.
The writing was on point. The descriptions were excellent. The humor.... did I mention laugh-out-loud funny that left me with tears in my eyes? I swear this is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. In between the laughter there are so many wonderful, heartfelt moments. The ones that make you sigh and fill you up. The emotion that happened was amazing as well.
From the second I cracked open my Kindle I was all about Callie and Garrett. I couldn't read fast enough because I wanted my HEA but at the same time, I never wanted it to end because it was so good. This was a truly wonderful read. Love, heart, humor, hope. Perfect!
