Review: Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

I absolutely loved this. LOVED IT!!! I pretty much laughed my way through this story as I fell more in love with the characters. I don’t think I can adequately express just how much Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating means to me. A must read!

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

synopsis_thumb2_thumb_thumb

Most men can’t handle Hazel. With the energy of a toddler and the mouth of a sailor, they’re often too timid to recognize her heart of gold. New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Roomies, Beautiful Bastard) tells the story of two people who are definitely not dating, no matter how often they end up in bed together.

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them... right?

5 out of 5 stars

This was just THE BEST! 6 stars! From start to finish I was in love with Josh and Hazel, laughing my way through the chaos and adventure, and rooting for them to get to their HEA. It was fantastic and I enjoyed every second!

Hazel was such a unique character who is refreshing and witty and so full of heart and life. I thought she had the most amazing internal dialogue, it was hysterical at times, I couldn't stop laughing. I got her and her crazy humor and thought process. I freaking loved that she was who she was and owned it with no apologies. Basically Hazel is my new best friend and I love her. Now Josh, oh my, what a charming sweetheart. So thoughtful and caring. As compared to Hazel’s explosive personality, Josh seems pretty straight laced and buttoned up. However he's got this quite confidence and acceptance about him that I was instantly drawn to. He was sweet and sexy and I love how he looked at Hazel, and how that easy acceptance made me feel.

Together Josh and Hazel were AMAZING! Hazel is pretty much a force of nature and I love how she was with Josh, their interactions and this building chemistry between them, they just clicked. I loved the timeline in which everything took place and how it felt like a true building friendship and natural progression between them as they came together. There were all these fantastic little moments that took place, from sweet to funny to heated. When their feelings start to come into play, I was laughing and cheering and swooning all at the same time. It was just incredibly entertaining!

The story was extremely well written and I thought it had an amazing build. Told from dual POVs, I loved immersing myself into Josh and Hazel’s lives and learning about them. There's an excellent cast of characters in play and I loved meeting everyone and enjoyed what they brought to the story. It's a light read and laugh-out-loud funny, but there was just the right amount of emotion and angst mixed in.

As a long time fan of Christina Lauren, I’ve loved everything from this wonderful writing duo. I have to say though, there’s something incredibly special about this one, Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating is in a league of it’s own and it’s one of my FAVORITE things they have written. This was well executed with perfectly timed humor and amazing characters that made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. All the stars!
