Four young ladies at the side of the ballroom make a pact to help each other find husbands... no matter what it takes.

Proud and beautiful Annabelle Peyton could have her pick of suitors—if only she had a dowry. Her family is on the brink of disaster, and the only way Annabelle can save them is to marry a wealthy man. Unfortunately her most persistent admirer is the brash Simon Hunt, a handsome and ambitious entrepreneur who wants her as his mistress.

Annabelle is determined to resist Simon's wicked propositions, but she can't deny her attraction to the boldly seductive rogue, any more than he can resist the challenge she presents. As they try to outmaneuver each other, they find themselves surrendering to a love more powerful than they could have ever imagined. But fate may have other plans—and it will take all of Annabelle's courage to face a peril that could destroy everything she holds dear.

5 out of 5 stars

This was such a wonderful story! Excellent introduction to The Wallflowers series. I loved Annabelle and Simon’s relationship, I adored the wallflower women and their bond, and I'm excited for what’s next. Can’t wait to read more of this series!

I loved Annabelle and Simon meeting and the fun animosity and bickering in their relationship. I liked their ups and downs as they get to know each other and really getting a glimpse of the other's true character. They were great together and I loved that growing closeness and chemistry developing between them. Simon was so incredibly sweet and enamored with Annabelle and I loved his pursuit of her. I loved seeing Annabelle’s feelings for him grow even though she was in complete denial of them. It made it super entertaining to read! There's a nice amount of tension as things build and I couldn't wait for it to all work out. There are fun moments, sweet moments and hot ones too. I thought it was a well rounded, well thought out story.

I loved the women introduced as the wallflowers and the bond that they formed. Those scenes were really fun to read. I enjoyed their personalities and am excited for their stories. I’m excited about the storyline that was set up for Lillian and can't wait to read that book soon.

There's a nice amount of drama and conflict involved. I liked the descriptions and was captivated by the story. Lisa Kleypas knows how to tell a heck of a captivating story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. A truly great read!

things-to-note_thumb2
You know what’s awesome about finding a new-to-you author? Discovering they have a huge backlist so you can continue to fall in love with them over and over again. After reading Cold-Hearted Rake, book one in the Ravenels series, I decided to backtrack and start at the VERY beginning. That meant going clear back to the Wallflowers series. I plan on reading The Wallflowers series, the Hathaways series, then going back to Ravenels. I normally don’t worry about reading spin-off series in order but since the hero in the third book of the Ravenels series (Devil in Spring) is the son of the couple in book three of the Wallflowers series (Devil in Winter), I decided to.

Do you read historical romance? I’d love some recommendations that are similar to Lisa Kleypas. Drop me a line in the comments and let me know!
