Book Review: Neanderthal Seeks Duchess by Laney Hatcher

Neanderthal Seeks Duchess was such a fun retelling, I enjoyed every second. The witty banter between Q and Lady Jane was so entertaining and had me smiling the entire time. This was my first time reading this author and it won't be my last.

4 out of 5 stars

Neanderthal Seeks Duchess was a totally entertaining and delightful historical romance. It had a fun, light vibe with excellent characters and a great storyline. I loved learning about the mysterious Lord Dashing and watching him and Jane come together with a wonderful HEA.

Jane was fantastic. I loved her quirky personality, she was so sweet and endearing with a big heart. I loved her thought process and internal dialogue. The mysterious Q was so charming and I loved the descriptions of him, from the looks he gave to his mannerisms. I liked how he and Jane met and the humor between them, they had incredibly witty banter throughout. I loved their chemistry and the excellent building attraction between them that had me swooning. I enjoyed the playful moments as well as the emotional ones as they learn more about each other, even as Q keeps his identity a secret, and Jane comes to understand her feelings. They had a wonderful slow burn happening and I loved the build as their feelings grew, I couldn’t wait for everything to explode between them.

This was a sweet, enjoyable read with a lot of fun moments that had me grinning. I liked what Jane was trying to accomplish in life and how she dealt with her pompous ex. I loved her friend group and adored their distinct personalities and what they brought to the story. I see more stories in the future since quite a few hints were given and there are a few lingering questions regarding them and a few other characters that were mentioned. No cliffhangers, just a little tease to keep you invested in the world and wanting more.

This is a retelling of Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid. It's been several years since I read that story so the majority of this felt unfamiliar and fresh to me. It's definitely a lighter read, there’s some mild drama but it’s easily resolved. My takeaway is that it’s an entertaining, engaging read that will have you smiling and leave you feeling happy. This was a winner for me!
