Book Review: Gossamer in the Darkness by Kristen Ashley

I love the Fantasyland series and was thrilled to return to this intriguing and exciting parallel world. Gossamer in the Darkness was a fantastic story to get lost in and made for an excellent addition to the series.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley brings a new story in her Fantasyland series…

Their engagement was set when they were children. Loren Copeland, the rich and handsome Marquess of Remington, would marry Maxine Dawes, the stunning daughter of the Count of Derryman. It’s a power match. The perfect alliance for each house.

However, the Count has been keeping secret a childhood injury that means Maxine can never marry. He’s done this as he searches for a miracle so this marriage can take place. He needs the influence such an alliance would give him, and he’ll stop at nothing to have it.

The time has come. There could be no more excuses. No more delays. The marriage has to happen, or the contract will be broken.

When all seems lost, the Count finds his miracle: There’s a parallel universe where his daughter has a twin. He must find her, bring her to his world and force her to make the Marquess fall in love with her.

And this, he does.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

5 out of 5 stars

Gossamer in the Darkness was entertaining and sweet with the perfect amount of light drama and emotion mixed in. I loved meeting Maxine and Loren and seeing favorites from the original Fantasyland series. It was fast-paced and exciting and made for an excellent addition to the series!

I loved Maxine and Loren. Maxine is thrust into a parallel world, and I loved how she embraced it and held her own. There were twists and turns and drama as she learned about the parallel world and her twin. I loved Loren and his protectiveness, and how once he really gets to know Maxine, he was all in to take care of her. I liked the banter and verbal sparring when they first met, and the challenge between them. When they started to soften, and the flirting ramped up, the timing was perfect. They have a slow burn of sorts happening between them as everything unfolds, and I enjoyed the evolution of it all.

I loved all the people Maxine met and how she brought them into the fold. I loved Loren's men and friends and the bits of humor they brought. Again, I LOVED seeing favorites from the original series and meeting characters from The Rising series as well. Maxine’s mother was awesome, and I adored her lovable twin.

Even though this is a novella, it’s pure KA and was still full of descriptive details that pulled me in. If you're a fan of the Fantasyland series, you won't want to miss this. If you haven't read it yet, this will give you a taste of what you can look forward to. This was a fantastic story to get lost in!
