Let’s Talk About That Story: September 2017

Let's Talk About That Story: September 2017 | About That Story

So, hey! Hi! It’s September. Okay, so it’s towards the ends of September but still, Happy September! I’m feeling rather chatty so get ready for some rambling in this months Let’s Talk About That Story. Let’s Talk about books shall we? Books and Instagram and hurricanes and anything that basically pops into my head. Here we go…

*all the books* Seriously! September has been awesome. What’s up with the fall releases because every time I blink, there’s another book to add to my TBR. Check out some the new releases in September…

Long for Me (Luminous) by [Lynn, Stacey] Blood Guard: A Mission Novel by [Erickson, Megan] Temporary by [Bowen, Sarina, Mayberry, Sarah] Breaching the Contract (The Conflict of Interest Series Book 1) by [Fernando, Chantal]

Stacey Lynn brought the heat in Long for Me, the third book in the Luminous series. I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite in the series so far.

Blood Guard was my first book by Megan Erickson and I am so excited to have found her. And I’m thrilled to have found a new vampire series to sink my teeth into. I love me some PNR.

Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry was awesome. I saw “Sarina Bowen” and requested this book before I’d even fully read the synopsis. Big fan! Right here! It was great being introduced to Sarah Mayberry as well. Can’t wait for more in this series.

Chantal Fernando kicked of a new series with Breaching the Contract. Fun and sexy! Can’t wait for more.

Chasing Christmas Eve: A Heartbreaker Bay Novel by [Shalvis, Jill] Playing With Forever (Sydney Smoke Rugby Series) by [Andrews, Amy] Fraternize (Players Game Book 1) by [Van Dyken, Rachel]

As I type, I’ve got Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis sitting on my Kindle waiting for me to finish. I love Jill’s books. They always leave me happy and smiling. After that I’ll be diving into Playing with Forever by Amy Andrews and Fraternize by Rachel Van Dyken.

Theirs to Take (Blasphemy) by [Kaye, Laura] Most Valuable Playboy by [Blakely, Lauren] Eye Candy by [Tijan, Daniels, J., Hunting, Helena, Jewel, Bella, Sivec, Tara] Arm Candy (Real Love) by [Lemmon, Jessica] The Honey Trap by [Perrin, Karli]

See? All the books right? The above are on my to-read list and I can’t wait to get to them. Laura Kaye, Lauren Blakely, and Jessica Lemmon are favorites of mine. I’m totally excited to read Eye Candy because of J. Daniels and Helena Hunting (and to try a few new to me authors as well). Also, the synopsis for The Honey Trap sounds awesome so I’m looking forward to that one too.

Dirty Filthy Rich Love (Dirty Duet Book 2) by [Paige, Laurelin]  Lucas: A Cold Fury Hockey Novel (Carolina Cold Fury Hockey) by [Bennett, Sawyer]

Who’s excited about the release of Dirty Filthy Rich Love by Laurelin Paige? This is the second and final book in the Dirty Duet series. After reading Dirty Filthy Rich Boys, I knew the first book, Dirty Filthy Rich Men would have a wicked cliffhanger so I decided to hold off until book 1 and 2 were both available. Me and cliffhangers are not friends. I cannot wait to read these babies back to back. Now to schedule the time.

Lucas by Sawyer Bennett. Ahhhhh…. Lucas. How sexy is the guy on the cover? *swoon* I’ve been playing serious catch up with this series. I actually have a few reviews to share (look for those soon). I’m a read in order kind of girl and I’ve got Max up next. Max and Lucas are brothers. Oh my! Must… read… faster… it’s a totally addicting series.

Told you! Lots of new releases. I know there are more out there as well but these are the ones that caught my eye.

A few of the books on my radar this month are already out and about in the world. Some will be releasing in the next coming months and in the new year. Here’s what I’m looking forward to reading…

Wilder (The Renegades #1) Royally Bad (Bad Boy Royals #1)

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros and Royally Bad by Nora Flite. I’ve not read either one of these authors but the book blurbs sounded great and they had really good reviews so I added both these bad boys to my list.

Romancing the Duke (Castles Ever After, #1) The Truth About Lord Stoneville (Hellions of Halstead Hall, #1)

Because I need more historical romance in my life, I picked up two gently used books from my local book store – shout out to Katy Budget Books! After reading The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare I definitely wanted to try her again so I’m now the proud owner of Romancing the Duke. Sabrina Jeffries has been recommended to me several times, so I grabbed The Truth About Lord Stoneville which is the first book in the Hellions of Halstead Hall series. I’m looking forward to both.

Moonlight Sins After Hours (The Boardroom, #1) Show Me the Way (Fight for Me, #1) Seducing the Defendant (The Conflict of Interest Series Book 2)

I haven’t read Jennifer L. Armentrout before but I’m thinking Moonlight Sins needs to be my first book by her. Love the synopsis!!! I need more Romantic Suspense in my life.

I picked up Done Deal by Lynda Aicher on Netgalley and after reading it I was so fascinated and had to have more so I’m really looking forward into diving into the After Hours. The novella was scorching hot so I’m thinking I’ve got some more heat in my future.

When I saw Show Me the Way by A. L. Jackson I immediately added it. It’s the first in a new series which thrilled me. I’ve heard amazing things about her Bleeding Stars series but there are 6 books in that series and since I’m a read in order girl, I was excited to be starting on the ground floor. I’m hoping to get to A Stone in the Sea, the first book in the the Bleeding Stars series soon.

Breaching the Contract kicked off the Conflict of Interest series so of course I had to add Seducing the Defendant by Chantal Fernando. How could I not?

Ties that Bind (Hot in Hollywood, #1) Animal Attraction (Hot in Hollywood, #2)

I am totally in love with Katee Robert’s The O’Malleys series (hot mafia guys for the win!) so when I saw Ties That Bind and Animal Attraction from the Hot in Hollywood series, I knew I had to read them. Can’t wait.

Last but not least…. these books might not have covers yet but I’m excited for them all the same:

Blood Veil (Mission #2) by Megan Erickson – because vampires! Blood Guard was awesome so there’s no way I’m missing this one.

Bountiful (Truth North #4) by Sarina Bowen – It’s Zara’s story! YES! We get to meet up with someone from the Brooklyn Bruisers series too. Can’t wait!!!

From the lovely Nina Bocci, The Complicated Casanova (Hopeless Romantics #1) and The Deceptive Darcy (Hopeless Romantics #2). Nina co-wrote Roman Crazy with Alice Clayton so I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table on her own. So excited!!!

I just finished The Submissive by Tara Sue Me in preparation to read The Dominant. I originally read this book in 2014 and needed a refresher. My next listen is Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley. After that I finally get to read Ally’s story, Rock Chick Revolution.

Earlier this month I finished Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley. This is hands down one of my favorite KA books ever. Every time I listen to it it gets me. There are three main parts that break me every time. For as many times as I’ve read it, you’d think it wouldn’t effect me like it does but I cry every damn time. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

Recommended Read: The Beautiful Bastard Series by Christina Lauren

Speaking off bff’s, this months Let’s Talk header features one of my very favorite book boyfriends ever. It’s Will Sumner from Beautiful Player. The entire series is exceptional but Player Will is one of my all time favorites. If you have not read any of the books from The Beautiful Bastard series, I highly recommend them.

All my intentions (and they were good, I swear!) to get this feature done at the beginning of the month went out the window thanks to Hurricane Harvey. I live just west of Houston and while our street was unaffected, other areas in our neighborhood and surrounding areas did get damage and everything felt pretty shut down for a while. My son started school, was there for 7 days and then the hurricane happened and then he was home for 11 days. My concentration level was pretty shot. Now he’s back in school and we’re back on schedule (yay! I love the school schedule!) so hopefully next month I’ll get it done earlier. Wishful thinking right? I probably just cursed myself by saying that. Fingers crossed!

Honestly that’s about it. I think I did enough rambling in the book related sections, lol! ;-)

Alrighty. Go forth. Read. Be awesome. Finish September strong and if you’re in a place that has fall weather – ENJOY! Since I’m a Kansas girl living in Texas I’m totally jealous. It’s my favorite season but we don’t really have a fall where I’m at. I’ll just be here dreaming of the leaves changing color, crisp cool weather, and cute fall sweaters.

Take care and happy reading,

Gretchen
