After reading Secrets of a Summer Night, the first book in The Wallflowers series, I dove right into the second book. I had to know what would happen next. It Happened One Autumn was a seriously addicting read!
Headstrong American heiress Lillian Bowman has come to England to find an aristocratic husband. Unfortunately, no man is strong enough to tame the stubborn beauty's fierce will. Except, perhaps, the powerful and arrogant Earl of Westcliff—a man Lillian despises more than anyone she's ever met.
Marcus, Lord Westcliff, is famous for his icy English reserve and his supreme self-control. But something about the audacious Lillian drives him mad. Whenever they're in the same room, they can't stop themselves from battling furiously to gain the upper hand.
Then one afternoon, a stunningly sensuous encounter changes everything... and Lillian discovers that beneath the earl's reserved façade, he is the passionate and tender lover of her dreams. What neither Westcliff nor Lillian suspect, however, is that a sinister conspiracy threatens to destroy any chance of happiness. After a shocking betrayal endangers Lillian's safety—and possibly her life—will Marcus be able to save her before it's too late?

This was so fantastic! The world, the characters, the build, the heat, I was in love with it all. It’s such a well thought out and detailed story that completely pulled me in!
Right from the beginning, I was all in. Lillian was a fantastic heroine. I loved her drive, her tenacity, and her challenging ways. She was a strong woman and I adored her. Marcus was so sweet... pretty buttoned up but underneath all of that was an amazingly kind and caring man. I loved their antagonistic banter, it was playful and outright entertaining to read. There were so many funny scenes that had me smiling and laughing. It was pretty well balanced though because there was a good amount of emotion too.
The other characters were great. I love the wallflowers and their wonderful friendships and I enjoyed the relationships the men have with each other as well. Of course, there were the villainous people that make me want to scream but they were well written and added a lot to the story. I loved meeting St. Vincent. Halfway through the book I was dying to know all the things about him. He's such a mischievous instigator, I’m excited for his story next.
Excellent writing. Loved the details of the time period and the traditions. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting a fun history lesson. I loved the building heat, the tension, and the drama. Oh my god, the drama! I was on the edge of my seat turning the page because I had to know how it would all play out.
It Happened One Autumn was a wonderful and engaging story. It was exciting, witty, and sweet with these wonderful and crafty characters. An absolute delight to read!
