Fans of Hannah Howell and Diana Gabaldon will love this Scottish romance that combines a “knockout love story with an action-packed plot” (Booklist) as a Highland laird risks his own life to rescue the daughter of his sworn enemy.
The Highland Renegade (Lords of the Highlands #5) by Amy Jarecki
She is the daughter of his sworn enemy.
Famed for his fierceness, Laird Robert Grant is above all a loyal Highland clan chief. But when redcoats capture his rival's daughter, he sets aside their feud and races to her rescue. Aye, Janet Cameron is beautiful, cunning, and so very tempting, but a Cameron lass is the last woman he should ever desire.
He is her one hope of happiness.
Janet refuses to meekly surrender, not even when surrounded by foes. She takes every chance to escape, first from the English soldiers and then from the wickedly handsome Robert. Yet with each day they spend together, his unexpected gallantry chips away at her reserve little by little. As danger and treachery loom, can she trust him enough to choose love over vengeance?
3.5 out of 5 stars
This was an exciting, fast-paced, entertaining read that
had me rooting for Janet and Robert to get to their HEA. I really enjoyed it!
I liked Janet a lot, she spoke her mind and I enjoyed her
tenacity. Robert was so sweet and so not the man others thought he was. I loved
him and his big heart. I liked learning about them and their family’s history.
I really liked watching them soften towards the other in the midst of a bad
situation and fall in love. There are a lot of fun moments happening, a bit of
drama, and tension, and a really nice building passion happening.
I thought this was a light read and I enjoyed the build over
the course of the story. There were really good details and descriptions that
kept it moving along well. It was a sweet romance with a bit of sexy and
flirting thrown in. This was my first time reading this author so it took me
until about 30% to really get into the flow of things and get a grasp on the
dialect. There were a lot of names shared in the beginning and it was slightly
confusing, this is book 5 in the series so I assume their previous couples.
My take away was that The Highland Renegade was a
really fun read, I was hooked wanting to know what happened next. I enjoyed
it and would read this author again.
