This was a fun story that had me smiling! Hockey Boy was a good second-chance romance with likable characters and entertaining scenes. Find my full review below.
Hockey Boy (Boston Bolts Hockey #1) by Brittanee Nicole
She’s also my ex-girlfriend.
The first time I saw her after ten years apart, I slammed into the plexiglass minutes before our game was set to begin. The second time I threw up. But third time’s a charm apparently because as my fiancée and I walked into an appointment to meet the woman hired to plan our nuptials–there she was again.
Obviously, I did what any smart man would do–I called off the wedding.
I don’t have a plan per se, other than winning back the only girl I’ve ever loved.
As a future hall of famer and one of the best centers hockey has ever seen, I know a thing or two about winning, but convincing Lennox Kennedy to give this hockey boy another chance might just be the challenge of a lifetime and this game I’m playing may turn out to be nothing but a pucking disaster.
3 out of 5 stars
Hockey Boy was a fast-paced, easy read and I found it
to be pretty entertaining. It made for a good second-chance romance with some
fake dating and an engagement mixed in. I liked the characters, felt for them,
and was rooting for them. That being said, I had a few issues that held me back
from really loving it.
I enjoyed learning Aiden and Lennox's history and watching
them reconnect. I liked Lennox and her outgoing self and I felt for Aiden and
what he was struggling with. I thought they had decent chemistry with a lot of
cute, light flirting, and some interesting sexy times mixed in too. I thought
the story started great with a lot of fun scenes woven in. However,
the more I read, and the more people that were introduced, and with the pace feeling
too fast at times, it made it hard to stay connected. It was definitely amusing,
but with so many characters, different couples, and connections, it could
be overwhelming at times.
There are a lot of entertaining moments that had me smiling
and I really enjoyed those. There's mild drama involved and while it definitely
added to the story, it felt slightly awkward to me at times. I liked learning
about Aiden and Lennox’s time apart and couldn't wait to find out why they
broke up and I thought there was a nice build to that moment but then it was
over in a blink and rather predictable. Everything with Lennox’s parents seemed
over the top and the resolution with that situation was anticlimactic. The
scenes related to Aiden’s issues felt subdued for the most part but the author
really brought it to light at the end and I thought it was well done.
This is one of those stories I liked but didn't love. While
it was fun, sometimes it was just too much with too much going on, with way too
many characters to keep straight. So, it was a good read for sure, just not a
favorite.
