Book Review: Hero by Lauren Rowe

Hero was such a fantastic story. I loved the characters, the build, and all the emotion. I loved meeting all Morgans and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Hero (Morgan Brothers #1) by Lauren Rowe

synopsis_thumb2_thumb
The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn’t speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together. And I don’t mean any of that figuratively. I’m not talking about a guy being floored by the sight of a gorgeous woman—although, of course, Lydia is gorgeous beyond words.

No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker—my physical therapist—I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit. When I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker, she was a ray of light in the dark. Hope for the hopeless. A salve for my singed and battered soul.

She said she’d been assigned to fix me. That she was there to bring me back to life. She said helping me was her calling. And then she touched me. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. She healed me. And I fell in love. But what I didn’t know . . . what I couldn’t possibly know . . . was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.

NOTE: The Morgan Brothers are a series of five interconnected standalones. Recommended reading order is to start with HERO or CAPTAIN, as book 1, despite series numbering, because both books run on same timeline, alongside each other, and their events happen first in chronology. However, if you do not mind skipping around in time a bit, you can start with any of the Morgan Brothers books, despite series numbering, and fully enjoy it!

5 out of 5 stars

Hero was such a fantastic story. It was equally emotional and entertaining and I thought it balanced well. I loved learning about Lydia and Colby and watching them heal, grow, and fall in love. It was filled with so many amazing moments and made my heart feel full.

Right from the start I was pulled into the somber tone and I felt so much for Lydia, it was like I couldn't breathe because I felt all her pain. Then fast forward to Colby and going through his experience with him, I felt like I was right there. It was intense and gripping for both of them. I loved when they met, it was sweet, flirty, and charming and I instantly loved them together. I loved learning about them, their struggles, and what was holding Lydia back. It was heart-wrenching at times and I was rooting for them. I thought Colby and Lydia had incredible chemistry and loved the pull between them. Together they were hot and steamy, Firefighter Colby brought the heat!

This was a touching read for sure but there was a good mix of humor added and it came at just the right time thanks to the Morgan family. I loved meeting them and adored their crazy nicknames for one another, they had me cracking up. I loved how they ribbed each other but were there for one another when it really mattered. I also loved Lydia's kids and all these amazing moments with them as they formed bonds with Colby and the Morgans. Some were fun and sweet, others made me melt, and others made me choke up. I loved watching Colby and Lydia fall in love and how they all formed a new family with the kids.

I can’t say enough good things about this story. I loved the pace and time span so nothing was instant, and I thought there was excellent development and a great build to several poignant moments. After meeting all the Morgans and getting hints of their personalities, I need more and look forward to the rest of the series.
