Book Review: Riven Knight (Clifton Forge #2) by Devney Perry

Riven Knight was one of my most anticipated reads of the year so I was thrilled that it came out in January. It was phenomenal! I loved the emotion, drama, and entertaining moments. Genevieve and Isiah were exceptional characters. You can't go wrong with this one!

Genevieve Daylee didn’t expect to be standing in front of a judge on her twenty-seventh birthday. But ever since her life became entangled with a former motorcycle gang, she’s learned not to expect anything but trouble.

Her mother, a woman she once admired and adored, is gone, leaving behind a trail of secrets and lies. She’s living in a tiny apartment above a garage owned by her brother, a man who loathes her very existence. And the father she met beside her mother’s grave is as much of a stranger as Isaiah Reynolds, the broken man with soulless eyes standing beside her in front of the judge.

Isaiah is her protector from the murderer at large in Clifton Forge. Though he’s more like a riven knight in dented armor than a prince on a white stallion. She knows next to nothing about him, other than he works as a mechanic. As of tonight, he’ll be sharing her bathroom.

And, according to the judge, Isaiah is now her husband.

5 out of 5 stars

Riven Knight was so fantastic! Page after page I fell even more in love with Genevieve and Isiah. I loved the slow burn to their relationship and all the feelings and emotions the story brought out in me. I was hooked on the suspense element and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was exciting to read and I loved every second!

Genevieve and Isiah were such amazing characters. They are in this very unique situation with a marriage of convenience and I loved how they navigate it all as they learn about one another and feelings grow, and trust and bonds are formed. There was great character development and an excellent build as everything played out. It was emotional and intense, but it also had fun, playful moments that had me smiling.

The writing was wonderful. There were detailed descriptions that pulled me in and excellent dialogue between the characters. Not only is there an engaging romance developing, but there are also other relationships in play that had me completely invested. I loved that tension as new relationships are formed with family and friends. I really enjoyed how the overall storyline continued from Steel King. I had a million questions and they were all answered. The suspense element was awesome, I loved that tension and anticipation as something new was discovered and I was guessing right up until the end. There were so many great moments, emotional, intense, and heart-stopping, I was caught up in it all!

I thought this was truly incredible from beginning to end. I hung on every word and detail because I was so excited about what would happen next. Perfecting ending with a nice epilogue, giving some fun updates and perfectly setting up the next story, Stone Princess. I can't wait!

things-to-note_thumb2
As of September of 2021, this series was rebranded and the covers were changed. The original series name of Tin Gypsy (with the skull covers) has been renamed, Clifton Forge. The first book, Steel King is the new title for Gypsy King. All the stories remain the same.

I did my best to update the series name and first book title in all the appropriate places where I was able to but the old skull covers will show up in a lot of images. Please note the change. Thank you!

The covers for this series are amazeballs! What are some covers that have caught your eye? Let me know!
