When I say this was laugh-out-loud funny, I mean I was laughing so hard at times that I had tears in my eyes. Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal was so freaking entertaining and made for an incredibly fun holiday read. Max and Betty had the best banter. You won't want to miss this one!
Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal (How My Neighbor Stole Christmas #2) by Meghan Quinn
Nothing says I love you like trespassing, public humiliation, and a town-wide Christmas spectacle to win your crush back.
Atlas "Max" Maxheimer did not sign up for this. One minute, he's anxiously trying to keep his family's Christmas tree farm from imploding. The next? He's passed out in the snow after getting clocked by a suspiciously strong bottle of soda.
Enter Betty: new in town, full of holiday cheer, and helping her uncle open a rival tree farm next door. Max is convinced she's out to destroy everything Evergreen Farm stands for. Betty thinks Max might be one sleigh short of a winter parade.
Cue the holiday chaos.
Between blizzards, blown reputations, wildly misguided romantic plots, and one stolen ornament with a seriously tragic backstory, this small-town war turns into something far messier―and much more delicious―than either of them expected.
5 out of 5 stars
Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal was so freaking
entertaining! I laughed, smiled, and felt all the emotions as Max and Betty
battled it out with their hilarious banter, awkward moments, and slow-burn
chemistry. It was absolutely priceless!
Atlas "Max" Maxheinheimer was fantastic! He was dramatic, sweet,
and caring, and I could not get enough. The rambling things that came out of his
mouth cracked me up. I adored Betty and learning about her, she had such a big
heart. She’s a little lost and out of her element in Kringletown, but I loved
how she put her best foot forward. She matched Max perfectly in awkward energy
and hilarious verbal ramblings, the things she blurted out were laugh-out-loud
funny. Their rivalry over their farms added just the right amount of tension
and conflict. I liked how Max attempted to devise a plan to combat it and how everything unfolded. Their banter had me rolling, Max’s schemes made me giggle, and the
chemistry between them built in the most amazing way. When they finally came
together, it was off-the-charts steamy.
I loved the cast of characters involved and how they elevated
the story. Betty’s uncle, Dwight, brought just the right amount of drama, and I
actually felt for him once I learned the why behind it. I loved getting updates
on Storee and Cole and seeing their friendship with Max, especially Storee’s
moments with him. The town itself, the quirky locals, and even BKJ added so
much charm. The narrator was spectacular! The dialogue between him and the main
characters added flair and had me cracking up. There was a scene with Max’s
parents that might be one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. I had actual
tears from laughing so hard.
This story had a Home Alone theme that was incredibly well
done. The Easter eggs were well-crafted and perfectly placed. I’m sure I missed
a few, which just means I need a reread to catch the rest and I'm looking forward to it. This book was pure
fun from start to finish. Filled with heart, humor, heat, and holiday magic. I
loved every second of it. My heart is happy. Five-star gold!
