Hot and consuming, this is a New Adult romance about a wayward musician and the one girl who keeps him grounded.

At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for ripped athletes. No one at college knows her heart was ripped to shreds by her high school boyfriend, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle. And then subsequently abandoned her. No one really knows Rachel Mattson at all, with one exception…

Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that horrible night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is also back, groveling for her forgiveness.

Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Now that Kai has had a taste of Rachel, he’s willing to do anything just to have her touch him again, even hiding his true feelings. After all, she only wants a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But perhaps it had been more all along.

5 out of 5 stars

This was a wonderful, coming of age and into their own, hot and heartwarming book that made me so freaking happy!!! Christina Lee knocked it out of the park with her third book in the Between Breaths series.

I found both Kai and Rachel so very relatable in different ways. They were really great, well written characters filled with so much depth and vulnerability, I was immediately pulled into their stories. I kept rooting for Kai and Rachel on their personal journeys as well as them coming together. Such wonderful yet slightly lost souls finding their way and I had this sincere feeling of happiness with how it all played out.

Great build, tension, angst, and longing throughout.  Kai and Rachel together, after being friends for so long, it was more than chemistry or a pull, it was a this incredibly strong bond. That foundation led us through an awesome story of emotion, fun, and some seriously HOT times. I mean really, the schmexy was WOW! By 15% I was thinking holymotherofhot... fans self... cold shower.

Kai’s journey really got to me… talk about growth! There’s a moment at the end with his parents – gah! I really liked Kia but but by the end I loved him. I loved how strong Rachel became with working out her past issues. We see Rachel's college friend and I about flipped with the Avery and Bennett element that came into play. Yay to that! I like all the secondary characters and would like to see what happens with Dakota and Shane (totally saw that coming!) or even with Nick.

This was just a fantastic story. There were a few angsty moments throughout as well as some emotional times. I got teary eyed several times and the ending, I might have been a mess because it was just so fantastic with an awwww! heart filled moment! Loved it all!
