Okay, wow. This book was just EVERYTHING! I loved Dex and Brae, their history, the off-the-charts chemistry, and the delicious slow burn as everything played out. The suspense element was excellent. Catherine Cowles kicks off the Starlight Grove series with a bang! Be sure to check it out!
Across the Vanishing Sky (Starlight Grove #1) by Catherine Cowles
He spent a lifetime trying to escape his dark past…but to save her, he’ll wade back into the shadows.
Braedyn Winslow never expected to return to Starlight Grove—the town that took everything from her. Not after her best friend, the one who’d sacrificed so much for her, vanished without a trace. But with a young son to raise and a past that won’t stay buried, Brae is back…and determined to uncover the truth.
She just didn’t count on the brooding, reclusive mountain man living next door.
Dex Archer is the stuff of local legend—silent, rugged, and surrounded by whispers of his and his brothers’ violent father. But Brae sees through the scowl and his parentage to the man beneath: fiercely loyal, unexpectedly kind…and just dangerous enough to protect her when someone starts warning her off her search.
The closer she gets to the truth, the harder it is to stay away from Dex. And as things get more perilous, Brae realizes the only person she can rely on is the one man who swore never to trust again.
Only someone isn’t happy that Brae has been digging, and they’ll do anything to stop her. But Dex? He’ll do anything to save her, even slip back into the dark…

Across the Vanishing Sky is officially my favorite
Catherine Cowles book (to date)! Braedyn and Dex, his brothers, the kids, the
town and people, the suspense… everything had me hooked! Add in the sweet
animals, the found family, and all the heart, love, and healing, and this book
pretty much consumed me! It was entertaining with the perfect amount of emotion
and mystery mixed in that had me on the edge of my seat. The first book in the
Starlight Grove series was fantastic!
I loved Braedyn and Dex. Their very first encounter had me
laughing out loud. I felt for them as I learned their history. I loved the slow
burn to their relationship and all their chemistry as the story developed. I hurt
for Brae as she searched for her friend Nova, but I loved how much faith she had and
never gave up. Dex seemed growly and grumpy, but he had a heart of gold. I loved
watching them open up and trust one another. I thought they had great growth
and I loved their vulnerable moments. I also loved building passion between
them, creating a nice amount of heat.
I am obsessed with Dex’s family and loved everything I
learned about him and his brothers. They each have distinct personalities, and I can’t wait to dive into their stories to understand the depth of pain
from their past. Especially Orion! I adored Dex’s uncle, his delightful
niece, and all the animals. I loved Brae’s relationship with her son and the
fun banter the two shared. I enjoyed all the characters introduced, and how the
town embraced Brae, it was sweet and heartfelt.
As for the tension and suspense, I ate it up! I loved
all the different threats coming Brae's way and the drama it created. It was
exciting! I liked the clues about her friend Nova dropped along the way,
keeping me invested. When things started to amp up, I was on pins and needles.
The ending was action-packed and thrilling. I loved it!
From start to finish, this was a hit. I loved all the
different bonds that were formed, the found family, and all the love and
playfulness. This story is not to be missed!
