Book Review: On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn

I couldn't get enough of Gregory and Lucy in On the Way to the Wedding. There was a fantastic build to them coming together and I loved the pull between them. This was entertaining and sweet and the perfect send-off to the Bridgerton series.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Gregory Bridgerton, in the final installment of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring the charming, powerful Bridgerton family.

Unlike most men of his acquaintance, Gregory Bridgerton believes in true love. And he is convinced that when he finds the woman of his dreams, he will know in an instant that she is the one. And that is exactly what happened. Except…

She wasn’t the one. In fact, the ravishing Miss Hermione Watson is in love with someone else. But her best friend, the ever-practical Lady Lucinda Abernathy, wants to save Hermione from a disastrous alliance, so she offers to help Gregory win her over. But in the process, Lucy falls in love. With Gregory! Except…

Lucy is engaged. And her uncle is not inclined to let her back out of the betrothal, even once Gregory comes to his senses and realizes that it is Lucy, with her sharp wit and sunny smile, who makes his heart sing. And now, on the way to the wedding, Gregory must risk everything to ensure that when it comes time to kiss the bride, he is the only man standing at the altar…

5 out of 5 stars

On the Way to the Wedding was an exciting and fun read with the perfect amount of emotion and longing mixed in and I loved all the feelings it evoked in me. I have loved all the books in the Bridgerton series but there was something so very special about Gregory and Lucy and them coming together. This story was a beautiful end to the series.

I loved Gregory and Lucy meeting for the first time. I liked learning about Gregory’s initial feelings for someone else and how his friendship with Lucy evolved. I loved how their feelings grew, I could see these little glimpses that they weren’t seeing yet and I was filled with anticipation for them to figure it out. There were so many fantastic moments full of feeling, passion, and emotion. I thought Gregory and Lucy had the best wit and banter and I loved the flow of their conversations. I loved seeing Gregory grow throughout the story. He truly made me melt! I loved Lucy so much. I admired how practical she was and where she was at in life and how she saw herself. I loved her being daring and watching her grow as well.

For me, this was perfect, it was everything I wanted and didn't know I needed. It had the best build and a delicious slow burn happening. There were some super entertaining, laugh-out-loud moments and Lucy and Gregory’s back-and-forth banter was priceless. I loved getting to see some of the Bridgerton’s and the energy they helped bring to the page. Violet, who had always been a favorite, was brilliant in this, and I truly cherished and loved a moment she had with Gregory. There was an amazing happily ever after, its drama filled with a bit of action. I thought it was perfection and was on the edge of my seat.

On the Way to the Wedding was heartfelt and sweet and incredibly entertaining but filled with so much heart as well. It's right up there with Anthony and Kate's story for me. I loved it!

things-to-note_thumb2
I read On the Way to the Wedding in October of 2023 and for whatever reason, I never posted my review for it. I'm not sure where my head was at, mistakes were obviously made because it was one of my favorite books of the year. I'm rectifying that now and getting it posted since - spoiler alert - it will be in my Favorite Romance Books of 2023 post.
