Book Review: Spark by Lauren Rowe

Spark was the sweetest friends-to-lovers story with the perfect amount of spice. I loved Kendrick and Ruby, their fun interactions and banter, and watching them get their well-deserved HEA. This book is sure to leave you smiling!

She’s my best friend. And I secretly want her.

Ruby’s my best friend and bandmate. The sister of my good friend, too. Which makes her “triple off-limits” to me. I’d even say she’s like a sister to me, if it weren’t for the unbrotherly dreams I’ve had about her since age sixteen.

But when Ruby drunkenly kisses me at a party to piss off her ex, the spark I’ve been working hard to snuff out for years bursts into a raging pyre. And now, I can’t stop obsessing about that kiss and yearning for another one.

In fact, after The Kiss That Changed Everything, I’m now determined to do whatever it takes to make Ruby mine, even at the risk of burning my whole world down.

Spark is a complete
standalone, best friends to lovers, forced proximity, rockstar romance.

4 out of 5 stars

Spark was a charming friends-to-lovers story with wonderful characters! It was really entertaining and sweet with just the right amount of emotion, plus a touch of tension and angst that had me hooked. The growing passion between these two was electric. Loved it!

I loved learning about Kendrick and Ruby’s long history and friendship, as well as their secret crushes on each other that could no longer be contained. They had an undeniable bond and were so cute together. I adored their playful banter. I could feel the angst and sexual tension vibrating between them as their feelings grew, even though they were holding back. When that tension exploded, holy hot it was worth the wait, there were a lot of steamy times happening. Kendrick was a total sweetheart, and I loved how he worked to get in there with Ruby. He had some help along the way that made things even more fun. I loved really getting to understand Ruby and her struggles and how Kendrick helped her come out of her shell with certain things. There were a lot of engaging and heartfelt moments woven throughout that I enjoyed.

I love this world the author has created with its intriguing characters and found families. I really liked the updates on Savage and Laila and was excited to see C-Bomb again. I adored getting more Reed Rivers, I have loved seeing his growth over different stories. It’s all well done with unique details tying everything together.

I switched between the audiobook and reading on my Kindle and I really liked both. I enjoyed the duet narration with the different members of the band and appreciated how music was incorporated into the audio. This story was light and fun, full of feel-good moments, great banter, and a nice amount of heat. It was just what I needed!
