Book Review: The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by J. R. Ward

Oh my goodness! The King was freaking fantastic. I loved Wrath and Beth, all the drama and emotion, and the build to it all. This is one of my favorite series!

Long live the King...

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle—with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything—and everyone—at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response—or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

5 out of 5 stars

This was absolutely fantastic! There's drama and heat, love and excitement, friendships and family, and so much heart. It was an exceptional story! Long live The King!

I forgot how much I loved Wrath and Beth, the couple who kicked it all off in Dark Lover. I love seeing how far they've come and where they're at. I loved the tension, conflict, and pain and the raw emotion behind it all. As they work through everything, I could feel that emotion. This book was a major turning point for them, and especially for Wrath. I loved where he was at by the end of the book.

I adored the past and present connection the author gave us. It was spectacularly well done and I love how it all intersected. The attention to detail was great. There are so many tie-ins that had me excited. All the other stories that are taking place are extremely well done. I love it when everything starts to come together and when storylines get conclusions. I was thrilled to really get to meet iAm, he was so much more than I thought he would be. I felt for Trez and this spectacular messed up situation he's in, I loved what's happening with Layla and Xcor, Assail and Sola, and so many more. The Assail and Sola story had really ramped up. Intense doesn't cover it! I can’t wait to read them all!

The writing, as always, was stellar. Loved the depth, build, layers, all the characters, the timing, and flow. The drama and intensity. The emotion (so much emotion!). The sexy (oh the sexy!!!). It's always awesome. These are stories you have to settle into and just go along for the ride. What's really fantastic is that in the midst of all this crazy intenseness, there are these nuggets of humor that totally had me laughing.

I feel like a broken record when talking about The Black Dagger Brotherhood series but they really are amazing. I was pulled in and consumed like I was a part of this world. Phenomenal story!
