I love a grumpy hero, but when the heroine is grumpy too? Yes, please! Barrett and Lily were fantastic, and I absolutely loved their banter. This had everything I love in a story, and I couldn't get enough!
Single Dad Dilemma (The Kings #2) by Karla Sorensen
A gruff, divorced NFL coach meets his match in an equally grumpy, commitment-phobic neighbor in this warm-hearted and witty romance about family, second chances, and overcoming the past.
You’d think it was the perfect setup: living next door to the grumpy single dad who needs my help with his troublemaking kids—just until football season is over. Swoony stuff, right?
You know who’s not swooning? Me.
I’m as grumpy as he is, and I’m fairly certain that for NFL Coach Barrett King, it was hate at first sight. It’s nothing I’ll lose sleep over because 1) the feeling is mutual, and 2) I’m not a people person. Just me and my dog, Larry, moving around when the mood strikes, is what I prefer.
Except I start getting attached. First to the kids. Then to their father. I don’t know why. He’s overbearing. His attempts at flirting are just growls and glares. But if I ever see that man smile…well, I might tear all his clothes off.
I don’t do forever. And Barrett—serious, thoughtful, sexier than he has any right to be—doesn’t do short term. We’re headed straight for disaster.
But if we're willing to take a risk, maybe this story won't end in heartbreak. Maybe what started as the perfect setup for two imperfect people just might end in love.
5 out of 5 stars
I loved Single Dad Dilemma! It was sweet and
flirty with fantastic banter, full of entertaining moments, and so much
emotion. I adored the slow burn between Barrett and Lily, their sizzling
attraction, and the incredible build. This book had everything I love in a
story, and I devoured it!
Barrett was hardworking, and I adored how much he loved his
kids and wanted to be there for them. I couldn’t get enough of Lily and her
grumpy self (and her hilarious conversations with her equally grumpy dog). From
the start, they butt heads, and their sharp banter was laced with an undeniable
chemistry and building heat. I really enjoyed watching them open up, drop
their guards, and begin to heal from their pasts and really grow. Lily had some deep secrets that added an extra layer of emotion, and when she finally
shared, it was heartbreaking. There were a lot of heartfelt moments throughout
that helped to create a wonderful story.
There were so many great characters that I enjoyed. Barrett’s
kids were a delight, and I loved the scenes with them and how they bonded with
Lily. I especially appreciated Barrett's relationship with his brother and the
growth the two had. I loved Lily’s growing circle of friends as well, and what they added to the story.
I thought there was an excellent build with an inviting
slow burn that was incredibly well developed. When the sparks finally
ignited, it was explosive and sweet and beautiful. Add in the dual POV and an
epilogue that left me smiling, and this book was an absolute winner. From
start to finish, this story had it all. I adored every second!
