New favorite. No notes! Mistakes Were Made was PHENOMENAL. It made me laugh and get choked up, and had me cheering for Gage and Zoey to get their HEA. The banter was amazeballs! This is officially a new favorite and a must-read!
Mistakes Were Made (Story Lake #2) by Lucy Score
A Gilmore Girls meets Schitt’s Creek redemption romcom.
He’s looking for the perfect wife. She’s looking for the perfect one-night stand.
Literary agent Zoey Moody has been exiled from the Manhattan publishing scene to small-town Pennsylvania with her best friend and only remaining client, romance novelist Hazel Hart. Zoey’s bank account is running on fumes, forcing her to liquidate her designer wardrobe to make ends meet.
But this plucky heroine has a plan to climb her way back on top. Nothing will stand in her way.
Okay. Nothing except her six-foot-two-inch blue-collar landlord, Gage Bishop. He’s smart, serious, and sexy. When he isn’t practicing law, he’s working with his equally attractive brothers in the family construction business. Worst of all, he’s ready to settle down.
Zoey might be the most beautiful, infuriating woman Gage has ever met, but her special brand of chaos makes it clear they’re all wrong for each other. She’s allergic to commitment and afraid of animals. He’s looking for a wife and lives in a literal barn. (For clarification, it’s a converted barn. But he does live there with a golden retriever who doesn’t understand the concept of personal space.)
These opposites can attract all they want. They both know it will never work out. For one, even if she wanted to, Zoey could never give him what he wants.
But when Gage’s world is rocked by a devastating family secret, he turns to Zoey for one night to forget everything. That one night just might change everything…or ruin it. Yeah. That’s more likely.

5 out of 5 stars
Mistakes Were Made is one of my favorite books of
the year! I adored Zoey and Gage, the amazing characters of Story Lake, the
laugh-out-loud banter and entertaining scenes, the cute animals, and the pure
joy this story brought me. I was smiling and getting teary-eyed at the same
time. I love when a story makes me feel, and this one absolutely did. Lucy
Score has done it again. Phenomenal read!
I loved Zoey and thought she was a very relatable character.
Her sarcastic wit and big heart were everything. She could be flighty, but
pulled it together when it counted. Gage was the best, a bit too organized and
always trying to do the right thing. It was the perfect opposites-attract
romance with a bit of headbutting and the wittiest verbal sparring and playful
banter as they fought their feelings. It felt like there was a tether
between them, and I could feel their chemistry and pull. They shared so many memorable
scenes, from funny to exceptionally sweet and swoon-worthy, to all kinds of steamy goodness. I could feel the pockets of emotion and vulnerability as
they started to open up. I loved the development of their personal journeys as well as their well-earned happily ever after.
I absolutely loved the relationship Zoey had with her
ride-or-die Hazel. I kept laughing every time Hazel used Zoey and Gage for
writing inspiration, it was hilarious! The Bishop family was amazing. From
their fun barbs and ribbing to them just being there, I loved the different
bonds. I felt for them about their past and understood Gage’s present-day
conflict. There was a lot of healing happening, and I got choked up so many
times. The people of Story Lake were wonderful and sometimes crazy, and I adored
them all. I loved how all the cute animals played a part in the story, especially
Goose the eagle. They were all fun additions.
This was filled with so many hilarious and heartfelt scenes that filled me up and made me happy. The details and development were spot on. There was a nice amount
of drama and emotion mixed in that added another layer of awesome. This was
pure Lucy Score, filled with humor, heart, remarkable characters, and an
incredible build. Never once did I want to put it down, I was completely invested. The first book, Story of My Life, was one of my favorites of 2025. Now this one is a favorite, too. I can't wait to see what the next book brings. I am loving the Story Lake series! All the stars!
