Book Review: Blood Vow (Black Dagger Legacy #2) by J. R. Ward

Another winner in the Black Dagger Legacy series! I loved Axe and Elise and getting more Rhage and Mary. Blood Vow was an exceptional story!

synopsis_thumb2_thumb
The Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to train the best of the best to join them in the deadly battle against the Lessening Society. Among the new recruits, Axe proves to be a cunning and vicious fighter—and also a loner isolated because of personal tragedy. When an aristocratic female needs a bodyguard, Axe takes the job, though he’s unprepared for the animal attraction that flares between him and the one he is sworn to protect.

For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart.

Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear.

As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.

5 out of 5 stars

This was fantastic! There’s a bit of angst, a lot of drama, a good amount of heat, and a lot of love and emotion. I was hooked from the start and kept turning the page. Blood Vow focused on two stories and I loved the flow between the different POVs. I was so excited to find out who I would hear from next and I couldn't get through this fast enough.

Axe and Elise were awesome! I loved his gruffness and attitude. She was so sweet and determined to make her own way. Them meeting was fantastic with an instant attraction I loved. I liked the fight between them, the bits of antagonism, and how their feelings start to grow. I loved learning about Axe and his past and why he had a big chip on his shoulder. I like what Elise was fighting for and the strength she had. Together they were great with a building passion and heat. I loved them opening up, sharing, and all the emotion between them.

The story with Rhage, Mary, and Bitty was so emotional. I totally cried! I loved the turmoil and drama that was brought in, testing them, their emotions, and the tension of what they were going through. Their unconditional love and determination for this little girl was amazing. I loved the new person in Bitty’s life and how it all worked out.

The writing was fantastic and I really enjoy how this story aligned with the BDB world. There are so many great details and I like how things get woven together giving it a lot of depth. I loved all the characters and how they're there for one another and the bonds they have. The angel Lassiter was involved with this story and oh my, this guy! He has so many special moments mixed in with obnoxious humor that made me melt. He's such a great character and I really like what he brings to the world.

The Black Dagger Legacy is such a great spinoff series. I loved the foreshadowing of what’s to come and am looking forward to Blood Fury! Bring it on!

The Black Dagger Legacy series is a spinoff of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and is set in the same world with interconnecting characters. While each book is a standalone in both series, if you're interested in reading in order along with the timeline everything takes place, please follow the following order as suggested on J. R. Ward's website. It mixes the Legacy series in with the Brotherhood series.
