I loved Ronan and Larke in The Brawl. The tension and animosity and that undeniable spark were everything! It was a truly great read!
The Brawl (Calamity Montana #5) by Devney Perry
Except Calamity’s sweetheart has sworn off men. The last time Ronan was rejected was, well . . . never. Yet Larke dismisses him without even batting those pretty brown eyes.
Bruised ego in check, he’s about to walk away when a teenager marches into his office and asks to hire Ronan as her lawyer. Something about a bad grade and a ruined grade point average that will inevitably destroy her future. He’s about to lecture the kid for being melodramatic until he learns that the teacher she wants to sue is Larke.
Suddenly this frivolous lawsuit seems like a bright idea. Ronan wants Larke’s attention and this is guaranteed to snag it. So let the brawl begin.
4 out of 5 stars
The Brawl was an entertaining, sweet, and sexy read
with light drama and tension, and I loved it. I loved Ronan and Larke and
the instant attraction they had. This was a feel-good, heartfelt read that had
me turning the page. It was just what I needed!
Ronan and Larke were great characters. I liked learning
about them and where they were in life. I liked Ronan getting a fresh start
after a major hardship in his past, and I liked Larke and her determination to create
a beautiful life for her daughter. I loved how they met and his pursuit of her,
they had such fun banter! I liked how Larke getting sued put a wrench in Ronan’s
plans and added a bit of animosity. This story was engaging and
charming, with some nice humor added and some emotional, touching scenes as
well. I liked the build as their attraction grew, and enjoyed them opening up
and being vulnerable. There was a good amount of heat as well and I thought
everything balanced nicely. I also adored how Ronan was with Larke’s little girl, Wren.
Those scenes made me melt!
The story of Larke getting sued was a special thing all on
its own. I was guessing the girl’s motivations pretty quickly, it was
heartbreaking and emotion-filled. I liked the depth it brought to the story and
how it helped bring Larke and Ronan together. I enjoyed the mention of other
characters from the series and seeing Kerrigan again as well. I'm excited for
the next story with Wilder Abbott, I'm a sucker for a grumpy hero.
There were great details and I loved the build. Some
things were easy and predictable but there were a few little surprises along
the way that I really liked. This was a delightful read with a wonderful
epilogue!
