Book Review: The Bluff (Calamity Montana #2) by Willa Nash + Excerpt

There was nothing about this story that I didn't love. Willa Nash knocked it out of the part with the second book in the Calamity Montana series. I loved the passion, humor, and heart. The Bluff is a must-read for sure!

synopsis_thumb2_thumb
As Calamity’s newest resident, Everly Christian thought life in small-town Montana would be dull and tame—and she needs a little mundane after the last few chaotic years. But one night, boredom drives her to the local bar, where she finds herself sitting beside a handsome and mysterious artist.

The man is anything but dull and tame, especially in the bedroom, and when she steps out of his shower and overhears his conversation, life gets interesting again.

Reese Huxley needs a wife.

And why shouldn’t Everly be the bride?

She’s got her reasons for agreeing to the hasty nuptials—reasons she’s keeping to herself. As long as she can stop herself from falling in love with her husband, she’ll make it out of this sham marriage in one piece. But Everly has a weakness for wayward men, and the more Hux pushes her away, the more she realizes this bluff is anything but a lie.

5 out of 5 stars

I loved The Bluff so much and couldn’t put it down! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I can officially say it’s a new favorite. Everly and Hux were everything! Marriage of convenience. Single father. Grumpy artist. I was all about this! I loved the passion, humor, and heart. It was perfection!

I can’t begin to explain how much I loved these characters. I loved Everly, she had the biggest heart ever and I loved getting to know her and about the vulnerable place she was in. I could feel the emotion coming off of her as she forged a new path and found her purpose. I loved the broody Hux and the love he had for his daughter. I felt for him and all he’d gone through in life. The two of them together were amazing! I loved their chemistry and the light-hearted fun they had when they met. There was an instant spark... these two were smokin’ hot! I loved how they tried to keep their feelings in check but emotions were high and feelings were growing, plus there’s a whole heck of a lot of heat involved, so there was a nice amount of tension and drama building. I loved them opening up and sharing, learning their history and their fears, the timing to it all was awesome.

There were so many wonderful scenes and moments involved with other characters. I love Everly’s relationship with Lucy from The Bribe and the updates on her and the sheriff. I loved the teenage angst thanks to Savannah, I felt so much for this girl and all she was going through. I also adored the connection to the short story The Booty, which thrilled me to see! There were a lot of ups and downs and some people I wanted to yell at, and a time or two I wanted to shake Hux, but it was that build and tension that made for an epic ending as everything came together.

I loved the storytelling, the phenomenal development, and the details. I loved the flow and dual POVs. I couldn’t wait for everything to come together. And the ending… all the reasons for the bluff… oh my goodness. My heart pretty much exploded with feelings and all the love. It was beautiful. This was everything I could have wanted in a story. The epilogue was so sweet and I loved the updates on where Everly and Hux’s life was at. The last scene with Kerrigan has me super excited for her story. The second book in the Calamity Montana series is a must-read for sure!

excerpt
“You need a wife.”

“It was a joke.”

She sipped the hot, black liquid. “Was it?”

Everly had this way of posing a question that contradicted everything. Like the first night we’d met at the bar and I’d told her she’d missed the excitement.

Did I?

One two-word question that had led me straight to her bed.

Well, this two-word question wasn’t going to lead me to the altar.
