I loved the introduction to the River Rain series with After the Climb and was thrilled to dive into the next book, Chasing Serenity. This was an intense and emotional story and I could not get enough. I loved all the characters, the different dynamics, and the incredible build!
Chasing Serenity (River Rain #2) by Kristen Ashley
From a very young age, Chloe Pierce was trained to look after the ones she loved.
And she was trained by the best.
But when the man who looked after her was no longer there, Chloe is cast adrift—just as the very foundation of her life crumbled to pieces.
Then she runs into tall, lanky, unpretentious Judge Oakley, her exact opposite. She shops. He hikes. She drinks pink ladies. He drinks beer. She’s a city girl. He’s a mountain guy.
Obviously, this means they have a blowout fight upon meeting. Their second encounter doesn’t go a lot better.
Judge is loving the challenge. Chloe is everything he doesn’t want in a woman, but he can’t stop finding ways to spend time with her. He knows she’s dealing with loss and change.
He just doesn’t know how deep that goes. Or how ingrained it is for Chloe to care for those who have a place in her heart, how hard it will be to trust anyone to look after her…
And how much harder it is when it’s his turn.
4 out of 5 stars
Chasing Serenity was a wonderful read filled with
so much passion, emotion, and love. I adored Chloe and Judge. I loved the
journey they were on, the feelings they fought, and how they grew over the
course of the story. I loved their family and all the different bonds, and the
fantastic build as everything played out. This was filled with so many amazing
moments and I couldn't read it fast enough.
Judge was everything! I loved learning his history and all
he'd endured growing up. It was heartbreaking and I felt for him but I loved
who he became despite it all. I loved Chloe. She is so much more than she shows
the world and I loved seeing the women behind the mask. I loved them together. I
thought their chemistry was off the charts and I enjoyed the animosity between
them when they first meet. Their back and forth was like foreplay. I like
how they fought their feelings but loved it when they opened up and became
vulnerable. I thought the growth they experienced over the course of the story
was phenomenal.
There was a great cast of characters and I loved the playfulness,
drama, and heartfelt scenes they created. I loved getting more of Corey Szabo
and seeing flashbacks of his and Chloe's relationship. This man is complicated
and I loved seeing a softer side of him through Chloe's eyes and understanding
their bond. There was a lot building up in Chloe when it came to Corey and her family and when
everything pours out of her, it’s gut-wrenching. I liked the different dynamics and
relationships taking place, and how the different families came together. There
were so many important moments happening, sibling bonds growing deeper, and some
tension with others. I loved learning about the complicated relationship Judge has
with his father and how it evolved. I really liked getting more Rix and what
has been set up for the next book. I also loved the interactions with
Rhys and the tie-in to The ‘Burg series. I find him completely fascinating!
This story has drama and intensity, a lot of emotion, and
an immense amount of healing and love. It made me smile and get teary-eyed.
I thought this was an excellent addition to the River Rain series that has me
excited for more stories.
