I can't believe the Runaway series is over. I'm sad to say goodbye but am thrilled with the beautiful and emotional story that brought it to a close. I loved Karson and Clara coming together and all the feelings the story brought out in me. This is not to be missed!
Dotted Lines (Runaway #5) by Devney Perry
Clara Saint-James is completing a journey started by an old friend. She’ll return a Cadillac to California, a place she’s avoided for more than a decade. But it’s time for closure and to put old ghosts to rest. And it’s time to find out if the feelings she’s cherished for the boy from her past are just fanciful memories—or if there’s a chance they are real.
Timing was never on her side, especially when it came to Karson Avery. The two of them lived in a junkyard as runaway teens, and though she wanted more than his friendship, he always belonged to another—until that one night when he was hers.
When Clara finds Karson living in a small, coastal town, she’s not surprised the beautiful boy from her past grew into a stunning man. His smile is as captivating as ever. His eyes have the same roguish glint. But timing is still working against her.
Clara must decide how far she’s willing to go to battle for Karson’s heart. Or if it’s time to let him go and surrender to the dotted lines that have always kept them apart.
5 out of 5 stars
Dotted Lines was beautiful, heartfelt, and emotional and an absolutely perfect ending to the Runaway series. This was a wonderful story about healing, love, and hope and I loved every second.
I loved learning Karson and Clara’s history and about their life
in the junkyard, there were excellent details. I could feel all the emotion and
felt for them and what they were going through. I loved the feeling of longing
and youthful angst between them. Karson was so carrying, sweet, and protective.
I felt for him and what he struggled with. I liked learning about Clara and what
she and Aria wanted for their future. This story was filled with so many
incredible, standout moments that made my heart feel full and I loved them all.
I loved getting to know Karson as an adult and seeing what an
amazing man he grew up to be. I felt for him and understood the inner turmoil and
conflict he was struggling with when he and Clara reunite. This story is so
full of emotion and longing and I felt it all. There were so many sweet, tender
moments. I loved the interactions with Clara’s son August, he was adorable. I
liked Clara and Karson sharing about their present-day lives, confronting the
past, and closing the door on that chapter of their lives. I loved the slow burn of them coming together and watching all their feelings reemerge. I thought
it was incredibly well done.
I was thrilled to get to know more about the gruff and antisocial
Lou, who has been a part of the series since the beginning. He's been such a
quiet character but he played a big part in his own way and I loved what he
brought to the story. All the details regarding him were excellent and it
gave me the closure I didn’t even know I needed but was thrilled to have.
I loved how this story was set up and shared with the dual POVs
and past and the present storytelling. I felt so pulled in and engaged. I
pretty much inhaled their past so I could get to the present. It was just so
compelling. I enjoyed how the previous stories from the series were woven in as
well. I loved all the updates on everyone’s lives. The ending was fantastic but
that epilogue… perfection! I felt like it all came full circle and made for a
beautiful ending.
This story was simply amazing! I just read and read, lost in Karson and Clara’s
lives, and caught up in all the emotion. I have loved this world so much
and saying goodbye was bittersweet. Thank you, Devney Perry, for bringing these wonderful characters to
life.
